USB Loader v1.0 Preview - Image 1

Waninkoko continues to dish out controversial yet inevitably-popular apps for the Wii. This time he's released the USB Loader program, which allows users to load their *ehem* backups from their USB storage device. Note that you'll need Custom IOS36 rev 09 for this (which is included in the download).

The description given in the readme is very straightforward: "USB Loader is a Nintendo Wii application that allows you to install and boot your backups from a USB storage device." Here's a video to show you how it works:

» Phew...

page 2 and only 10 jumps thus far.

this is BIG news (note, I didnt say good). I love the idea of a USB loader, but I have also seen the distruction done to the PSP due to piracy. Dont get me wrong, I am not as pure as the driven snow, but if people are going to start buying up terrabyte usb drives and battering torrent sites or newsgroups, this could be the beginning of the end of what is a good toy...

..I hope not, but I'm gonna have a look anyway

» This is old news - Version 1.1 released

here's the only link i could find with a download link to the files needed.

google it.

i just installed it on my 3.2u softmodded wii, i did a network install instead of wad install for the custom ios needed, then ran the usb loader from homebrew channel, it formatted my usb hard drive for me and then i copied a backup of my wiimariokart to the hard drive and it booted very fast and runs perfectly. Even played online without any hickups.

as for the PSP comment above, most people who own a wii would never even consider doing this to their wii. It wii has a huge following! Piracy will never be popular enough to imact developers decision to release games for such a popular device.

» question

This might sound noobish but do you need a wii modchip for this or do you just have to install the firmware? Please respond.

Also, is it possible that a certain firmware cannot be modded? *not sure since I don't own a wii*

» no

no modchip needed, but you need to enable wiibrew by installing the twilight hack, then install the custom firmware.

and no, to my knowledge there is no firmware that cannot be modded, but there have been reports of certain wii models that can't be modded.
