Soul Calibur - Image 1There's been a good deal of speculation on which third-party titles are going to make a jump to the Nintendo Wii, and Blogspot has some nice guesses as to what they are. In their Nintendo Revolution segment, it was revealed that a major fighting game franchise will make an appearance on the hot console in the form of a wild adventure title. Meanwhile, Rockstar will probably have another title (Table Tennis) after Manhunt 2 debuts on the Wii this August.

The word is that the Wii will have either another Bloody Roar or a new Soul Calibur game coming out pretty soon. This comes as no surprise as these franchises have been tremendous success stories and should do very well in the Nintendo fold.

The source also says that Table Tennis from Rockstar should follow off the heels of Manhunt 2. The Wii controller will be perfect for the game and should endear the machine even more to audiences of all ages. Of course none of this is confirmed, but we'll give you a feed when more concrete news is at hand.

UPDATE:

Time to say "Hurrah" for Wii enabled brawlers. Jeux France confirmed the rumors of a Soul Calibur title for the Wii, though details are currently scarce.

The title, known as Soul Calibur Legends, will play as a fighting adventure game, allowing you to use the Wiimote to perform attacks. expectations for this game are something along the lines of the Tekken spin-off Death by Degrees, but we certainly hope it'll be better than that.

In any case, we'll keep you posted on further updates to this game as they come.

» no no no no its not

Soul Edge was the Playstation / Dreamcast first release of the series. the name of the sword. it then changed titles to Soul Calibur for Soul Callibur 2 (on GC, PS2, (xbox?), Soul Calibur 3 was then an exclusive PS2 title.

So going off that its Soul Calibur.

I"m not a big fan of using the wiimote and nunchuck for performing moves, theres a time and aplace for motion sensing games and i truly don't believe arcade fighting games is one genre that should get this treatmen. Much rather use the GC wavebird or classic controllers for these type of games.

Even better if players had the choice to use either wiimotes or classic controls would be the best IMO.

The first title was called 'Soul Blade'. The name later changed to 'Soul Calibur' for the the sequels.

HerbSurgeon, it was called Soul Edge in America. The European name was Soul Blade(way do dumb it down for us ;/). I have no idea what it was called in japland though.

» Naming and such

Ok, let me clarify: I've looked this up before and rechecked my info before posting this. "Soul Edge" was the name of the first game's arcade version worldwide. When it was ported to the PS1, it was still called "Soul Edge" in Japan, but renamed "Soul Blade" in other regions (America, Europe, and probably elsewhere). The second game, released in the arcade and for Dreamcast, was called "Soul Calibur". "Soul Calibur 2" was later released for arcade, PS2, Xbox, and Gamecube. "Soul Calibur 3" was originally released for PS2 and then an enhanced port was made for arcades.
