Indeed, great things come to those who wait

Although some would say that the Wii launch was overshadowed by the PS3's, there's no denying that the Times Square Nintendo event was a blast. Both gamers and non-gamers were there to get a piece of the fun. But the best part would have to be the fact that there were actually a lot of Wiis to go around last night.

The appearance of Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime did work up the crowd. Of course, it meant a lot for them Ninty fans that its big boss would actually step out and be with them for this occasion. At one point in the evening, he even played a round of Wii Sports tennis with a fan in line, which almost caused a ruckus as others moved in closer to have a better look at him.

Reggie was also keen on reminding everyone that they buy their Wiis in an orderly fashion as there's a lot for everyone, anyway. Yeah, there was certainly no need for pushing and shoving around that night. And come 12:01 a.m., the fans did happily oblige to his request. You have to give credit to this guy. He sure knows how to do his PR tasks very well. That's why it really isn't surprising that he'd be welcomed with chants and cheers of "Reggie! Reggie! Reggie!" and professions of love and affection.

And there were certainly a lot of love spread around that night. A group of visual arts students even handed out coffee, patches, seat cushions, and buttons, all for goodwill. But the guy who probably felt the most love would have to be Triforce. After persistently waiting outside Toys 'R' Us for the Wii launch for nine days, his efforts were well-rewarded as no other than Reggie himself handed to him the first sold Wii that night. And with an autograph to boot.

The Wii launch signals the official race for all three next-gen consoles as all are now out in the market.

Update: CBS posted this video a few hours ago on YouTube. It's of the NY launch. We just thought you guys might want to see it. Ah. Wii is love.

The wii has become so big that it has consumed the lives of many people. I can't beleive the people who line up for these systems. I mean yes they oughta be real fun, but please dont let it becomes the highlight of your life!

I was there. I saw myself in that video waiting anxiously on line with a few buddies. Great times.

And to Julesno1, waiting on line was fun because we were in good company. They're not the highlight of ones life, but its something to do that different. Club hopping and drinking one's self to sleep in bars all night gets lame when you hit 21.
