Ubisoft ramping up for new generation of consoles in 2012 - Image 1Although both Sony and Microsoft have denied that they'll be releasing new versions of their consoles anytime soon, and despite the fact that they're both suffering economic woes at the moment, Ubisoft is already getting ready for the next gen anyway.

(When I say next gen, I mean next gen, not this gen that was next gen but is now just this gen. Savvy?)

Ubisoft believes that new versions of the consoles are set to come out around 2011, or 2012, and so they're getting themselves all gussied up for the eventuality. Says CEO Yves Gullemot:

We want to take advantage of a company that could bring more technology to us, or new brands.

So we have now enough to help us to grow the company for not only next year but to get ready for the coming of the next generation consoles that are probably going to happen 2011, 2012.

We have to be ready for that, we are already hiring people and buying some technology and looking at some brands as well.

At least we don't have to wait months before a decent game is released on the next gen consoles this time. Meanwhile, Sony and Microsoft are still b-slapping each other silly over who can be the bigger fanboy to keep us entertained until then.

» new consoles in 3 years?

i doubt it. microsoft is most likely happy with their 360, financially. and that will probably stay for a while. why should they bother? microsoft goes into action when it starts feeling endangered. if it weren't for firefox, they probably would still ship ie6 with their operating systems.

as far as sony goes - there is always a lot of research going into next-gen console on their end - they usually like to develop their own cpu, and most other chips. microsoft usually takes ready solutions from other companies, and puts them together. kinda like pc, but the end product is still optimized for gaming/multimedia.

3 years to develop a successor for ps3 seems nowhere close to being enough. plus, there are no rumors that they have even started.

as far as features go:

there is no killer-technology right now that ps3 successor could incorporate to make people buy it. well, at least there is none such technology on the horizon now. even ps3 doesn't shine as much compared to ps2, as ps2 did compared to ps1.

that's because i remember how sony wasted ps2's potential. in the end we were left with games that run only from dvd/cd and use a memcard to save, a few usb gadgets. and that's pretty much it. oh, you can play online, too.

ps3 is like "ps2 done right". proper hard disk support (it also stores your game saves), proper network support, proper web browser, upgraded usb, upgraded network, upgraded graphics, upgraded drive.

ps2 could have all those features, but no commercial developer used ps2 to its fullest, because sony didn't allow him to. well, ffxi was pretty close. network, hdd, upgrades, expansion packs.

It is very likely that a new generation of systems will come out in 3 years, that's making 360 going on 7 years old.

There is already plenty of technology out there that is better than 360/PS3....New Intel quad duos, and even Cell has had improvements since it's release. Not to mention advances in GPU's....

Also, if Sony is smart they will keep the cell in the "PS4" and just use the higher clocked ones that are out now. If MS or Sony completely changes their technology, we will have the same prob as this gen, with devs taking forever to properly learn the systems...

Also, just because a new system comes out, doesn't mean the old one will no longer be supported....this is obvious with PS2....and if 360 is still selling i'm sure MS will continue to sell it...if not, they will axe it right away like they did the orig Xbox.

Blah ur so so wrong. 6 years is a decent length for a life span of a console. The technology keeps pushing ahead. It might be hard now to understand how great the next generations of consoles will be, but you just have to look at history to see the major leaps between hardware.

Not everyone upgraded to the new systems so why would they release another one? People barely got their hands on the PS3 and the 360. 6 years now a days is too short of a console lifespan. It's already hard to develop games for this gen releasing the next one will be a bad move for the companies. Nintendo on the other hand is in a great spot to do so.

for blu1234. The world is not gonna end in the sense your thinking of. The world is gonna change as we enter the new age, every life force on this planet is built with a strong desire to shed the skin of the old age as life prepares to move into the new age. Thats not the problem though, thats just how the universe works. The problem is the NWO (new world order). They have been and will always be trying to control everything they think is rightfully theirs because their bloodlines stretch further back then the normal persons. They do not believe in equality, they want it all for themselves, and now that they are aiming for it, some stronger presence that controls all will retaliate against these few individuals. So be patient human race, be patient.

» Calm down

Absolutely nothing is going to happen on Dec 21, 2012, just like nothing happened on Dec 31,1999/Jan 1, 2000. The day will pass like most of the days before it, with nothing happening, and the world will forget about it.

And most of the NWO crap is a story buddy, nothing more. A story that makes very good games (Deus Ex).

Put those conspiracy books away and step into the real world. Something like the Illuminati is not possible in this huge, complex world.

» 2012

Master Chef pointed out that the world will not end on 12/21/12. The only real significants of this date is that is the date when the Mayan Calendar resets (ends). The Mayans used star positions to base their calendar and from a fixed point on the earth a star's position changes 1 degree every 72 years. The stars will have completed 360 degrees of movement on 12/21/12 and a New Age will begin.

As for the Console wars, didn't I hear that President Obama had Hiliary Clinton mediating a cease fire and putting an end to that war ?

» um.....

Dear Master Chef, How nice it must be to be ignorant of this planets history and current happenings. Do you really think the world just moves on like nothing happens? How can this be if it is so complex like you say? How can you be so sure that the world will be alright with the way its been going for the last 50-60 years? Dont you ever read or watch tv or listen to radio? Another thing though, the Illuminati is not just one single group like youve stated so blatantly, makes me think your a freemason the way you say the things you say. Trying to make disinformatory remarks to stop one from seeking their own knowledge is a very bad thing to do, so why dont you just back off, there was no harm in what i said, you must have been deeply disturbed by what i said to made a response directly aimed at me (since we are buddies and all). And by the way, the new world order does exist, you obviously

never listened to the things George Bush Senior and Junior said while in office huh? I gaurentee you probably never even heard things FDR had to say either. Its sad you try to say the things I say are wrong, but our history speaks for itself, and if your ambitious enough you can dig up information on basically anything. So you can be just like your buddy georgy and bill clinton and try to laugh loudly and yell conspiracy theories, it dont matter, in time all will see.
