U2 wants to have a U2: Rock Band? |
Ó
While some bands and rock icons have expressed their disinterest towards music games, the legendary artists of U2 are eyeing the other side of the fence. Instead of turning their backs on what could be an insult to their artform, they've decided that they want to get a piece of what The Beatles did with Rock Band.
Actually, Harmonix already approached U2 and ask them to lend their voices and likenesses to an unspecified of Rock Band. They refused. "We definitely would like to be in there, but we felt some of the compromises weren’t what we wanted,” said bassist Adam Clayton. But since they saw what was done with The Beatles: Rock Band (PS3, Xbox 360, Wii), the band saw something that they like.
That could change. I love the idea that thatÂ’s where people are getting music, and weÂ’d love to be in that world. WeÂ’ll figure something out. What The Beatles have done, where the animation is much more representative of them, is what weÂ’re interested in, rather than the one-size-fits-all animation. We didnÂ’t want to be caricatured.
Well, having U2 to play would be interesting, but would Harmonix invest on making U2 their own version of The Beatles: Rock Band? Music game sales are already on the way down, and if they don't pickup, U2 might find themselves a little too late on the follow-up.
These guys see it differently:

- Chad Kroeger: set down the Guitar Hero, learn how to play an actual guitar

I don't think money's a problem for HMX. The reason: DLC. Harmonix already made $40 million from DLC alone, and that was *since* Jan/Feb. 2009.
As long as it's got plenty of their 80's and early 90's stuff in there I might actually be tempted to buy my first Rock Band game.
If they made it so that rb1 and rb2 songs would transfer over to the u2 game, or visa versa, then I'd be all for it. If it's a standalone game, incompatible with all the rock band that I've already bought, then I'll pass on it just like I passed on the Beatles.
I just vomited in my mouth a little. U2 is the *****tiest band in the history of music. Nothing but euro trash listens to U2. They always try to steal the limelight from every other artist.
Guess what U2, you're not good enough to have a RB game dedicated solely to you. Now go back to your tours and fade into obscurity please.
Fade into obscurity? You make them sound like a one of those 5 minutes of fame bands who get all hyped one week and are forgotten the next. These guys been going on for 30 years and are still playing sold out tours regularly. Ok bar a couple of catchy songs I'm not a fan of their recent work but 80's and early 90's U2, as far as I'm concerned, were one of the very best bands around. And as annoying as Bono can be, he still doesn't irritate me as much as Paul McCartney does. My own personal hell is McCartney singing that seemingly never ending version of Hey Jude like he seems to at every concert he's in. I loathe that song and wish it had been him that got shot a long time ago. Lennon (pre-yoko) and Harrison were the only good Beatles.
If it includes War in its entirety, I'd be very interested. I don't care very much for their newer material, but their earlier works are great.
There's a particular tribute album I'd like to see looked at as well, titled "We Will Follow." It's a synthpop/industrial compilation of U2 covers, very good stuff.
but of course U2 will not be allowed to develop it themselves hehehe. and harmonix may deny access to their studios because U2 owned game devs may copy the technology.
