Wii Menu 3.4 blocks Twilight Hack, deletes modified saves - Image 1

Nintendo's really cracking down hard on piracy, and on its warpath is trampling on Wiibrew grounds as well. The latest firmware update has gone live, with amendments to the Nintendo User Agreement, and stringent homebrew blocks.

According to the changes in the agreement form, the new firmware update will automatically remove modded save files. Not only that, but it also blocks the Twilight Hack version 0.1beta1. Not everything is gloom and doom though, it does really improve other features of the Wii. Here's what's new:
  • USB keyboard support in Mii Channel
  • Enhanced parental controls
  • Twilight Hack version 0.1beta1 cannot be copied to the console.
  • Improved SD card read/write speed
  • Improved disc reading
The Wiibrew community hasn't recovered fully from the last time they let out a firmware update blocking homebrew. The community managed to circumvent the update with a Wii Shop and IOS51 installer, but the update itself remained inaccessible to those who value their Wiibrew.

Guess we'll have to wait on the Wiibrew community to see how they'll deal with it. For now, it's probably best that you don't update if you plan to keep brewing.

Thanks to Ando-kun and Lil-Diabo for the tip!

why is it that the homebrew channel still works like usual?

It seems that updating is pointless now that they've gotten to the root of the homebrew source.

My Wii is still on the 3.1 update that came with the launch copies of SuperSmashBrosB rawl.

Not worth it, people should wait for Team Twiizers to release a workaround.
