And I think that's one of the reasons why horror/suspense video games still proliferate the market. You step in the shoes of (insert unfortunate character's name here), who by chance, happens to stumble upon a (insert mystery here). Of course, that leads to a series of spine-tingling events that revolve around your character's untimely demise, and because you're way smarter than Computer AI, you're expected to fight (insert creepy crawlies/monsters/ghosts here) and keep your character alive until the mystery is solved.
Of course, that wouldn't be so easy. After all, the terrors that await your character are expected to creep you out as well. You'll be made to lurk in dark hallways, trapped in unlit rooms, and to top it all off, be stalked by disturbing images. Sure puts a new ring to the word "survival", don't you think?

what a bull***** list!!!! THE SUFFERING!? SYSTEM SHOCK!?! HAHAHA. Wow, idiots. The only ones I agree with are AVP, Silent Hill, Doom III. In fact, AVP should have been #1. I've never been so scared playing a game as I was with AVP. Oh and they are wrong, it wasn't a Jaguar exclusive. I have it for PC. Also, WHERE IS FEAR!?! That game is hella scary.
oh and I almost forgot resident evil. that was mad *****in' scary. i remember one of my friends had his ps1 setup in his basement, and he would only go down and play resident evil if someone was with him. HAHAHAHA.
The Suffering was a GREAT game....was it scary? No...but still, heh, it was good. Yeah some games had no business being there....Aliens Vs. Predator...come on.... and where is Condemned? Condemned Crimnal Origins was friggin scary....and it didn't make the list, yet...Fatal Frame 2 did?

I have dial up so I can't watch the video, but all I know is Condemned was scary as hell! I literally screamed like a little girl in the first level and haven't played it since. Also, on 360's FEAR demo, I handed the controller over once I saw that little girls shadow and heard her laugh! EEEkkkkk
Fatal Frame 1 was more scarier than number 2.
i was expecting FEAR to be number one with Doom coming in at second.
I think Silen Hill should have ranked twice. 2 had some really f**ked up momens. Still Silent hill 1 deserves 1st. Second WTf, where is fear or condemned. Thoes were alot better then a few they listed. Also suffering 1 was wicked. Still one of the most amazing parts of that game where the two voices in your head telling you to do good or do bad at the same time.
dude, you obviously never played AVP... you probably weren't even born back then. HAHA. seriously though, that game was scary as *****in' hell. it took me a while to figure out which button on the keyboard was nightvision, and I ended up playing like 1/4 of the game in just pure blackness. the red/pain indicator/flashing when an alien gets behind you is scary as *****. PLUS, what the video didn't mention is that the aliens CLIMBED THE WALLS AND CEILINGS... i don't think condemned or the suffering should be listed, because both games were failures. no one played them. my list would be #5 Doom III #4 Silent Hill #3 Resident Evil #2 AVP #1 FEAR. when you come down the ladder and Alma is there, I think I shat my pants.

Condemned was a failure!?! The Suffering was a failure!?! ... get your head examined man, both of those games were great. You probably havn't played more than 10 minutes of either of the games. I know one thing is for sure...at least in Condemned and The Suffering, the enimies make noise when they come at you, its not all silent like on AVP...worthless.
Seriously, Condemned was the freakiest game I have ever played. I wasn't even able to finish it. I'm really dissapointed that it wasn't on the list.
The series as a whole is definitely the scariest. Just thinking about Pyramid Head sends shivers down my spine...
i think shadowman for ps1 was scary.
Anyone ever play Realms of the Haunting? It's a DOS based game published by Interplay. I remember sitting at my computer desk and having the ***** scared out out of me. It was also pretty big in size for it's time (came on 4 cd's). Anyways, I recomend it if you want to play something scary.
silent hill at number 1? what the hell? AvP on the PC should be number 1, it is the only game i refuse to play because i get scared of the facehuggers. Half Life 2 was scarier than Doom 3. i can't think of many other scary games.
i find it funny that so many people think Doom 3 and Fear were some of the scariest games theyve played.... wow...
Honestly, and without a doubt, Fatal Frame 2 is the scariest game I have ever played. Probably not the best game on the list, but turn the lights out and the sound up, I'm sure you'll be scared more than you thought possible. You haven't played it if you disagree.
There's no *****ing doubt that Silent Hill should be number 1. That game is the scariest thing i have ever seen. Ten times better than the best horror out there. I first played Silent Hill on PS1 6-7 years ago and i was so scared. Yesterday i doug up the old Silent hill demo for PS1 and played it and it was still *****ing the scariest thing ever! Silent Hill 1 is the best!
Silent Hill is definatly the #1 scary game, mostly because it makes you scared, but you HAVE to keep playing. And I agree about the facehuggers... I still refuse to play the marine missions in AVP 1 and 2
yeah, they nearly perfected survival horror with SH2 via atmosphere and the headf*** stories. And Pyramid Head is my favorite video game baddy.
They should've made the entire Doom series one of the spots. Doom 1+2 were scary as hell, especially on nightmare when enemies would start teleporting behind you and you could hear them breathing heavy and growling...

How come its not in the top 10??? It was a lot scarier than "the suffering".
well, i agree with them on there pic of silent hill being #1, but doom3 should be #2 or 3
