Thompson demands NIU shooter's video game history with lawsuit threat - Image 1

A recent shooting in Northern Illinois University by a 27-year old student named Stephen Kazmierczak brought another appearance by Jack Thompson on Fox News. In his statement, Thompson related the shooter's actions to violent video games which he called "simulators."

In this latest development, Thompson faxed a letter to NIU asking for the shooter's history in playing violent video games. He ended the letter with a statement in what could be construed as a threat of a lawsuit should the documents not be provided:

Pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request production of copies of all documents that reveal Steven KazmierczakÂ’s play of violent video games, including but not limited to the use of his computer to play Counter-Strike, which he apparently, according to the New York Post, used to rehearse for his ValentineÂ’s Day Massacre at NIU.

The killers in the two worst school massacres in history—in Erfurt, Germanay, and at Virginia Tech University—similarly trained on Counter-Strike to rehearse for their killing sprees.

If I am not provided with this information, I shall bring a civil action to secure these documents.

He also emailed this letter to GamePolitics, who then asked him if he really faxed this letter to NIU. Here is Thompson's reply:

Of course I sent it to them, you idiot.

The NIU investigators have already responded, professionally, and told me they will get me this information in due time.  This is how you do this, which you wouldnÂ’t know.

» this man makes me sick

» train?

how do u train to kill on counter strike, the character can jump about 4 feet in the air and runs at cheeter speed, you cant train on that. plus all u have to do is aim and shoot, how much training do u need to do sumin like this?

» hey

if you want a good gaming news site that actully do their job you might want to try out www.n4g.com

» .

Why would the investigators give him the documents? I'm pretty sure even if he did file a civil suit it would go in the investigators favor...seeing as Jack isn't involved in the investigation at all and doesn't really have a real reason to need to see them.

» yeah

a flamebait site. Good Info is there... but a lot of whacko's and faulty info to wade thru to get to it.

» It's so nice

» lmao tell me he didnt say that..

idiot? Wtf is wrong with him, he has a grudge against anything to do with gaming. Did his brother die from chokeing on a N64 or somthing??

» nope

he got a wiimote shoved up his ass

by Lazyboy256 - 2008-02-18 09:46
» What a dumbass

Little does he know, in Counter-Strike, you use teamwork most of the time, you don't just go around shooting as you need to take cover and crouch for increased accuracy, and it is nowhere near any kind of massacre simulator...I mean you really won't have a chance against 3+ people if you charge at them!!

Also, he asked for the Virginia Tech guy's video game history, and they found no evidence of games around, and his college mates say he never saw him play any games--what makes him think he can blindly say he played Counter-Strike?

Man, this senile guy just blatantly sucks. Maybe he got his ass handed to him in Counter=Strike.

by Naroon Kasui - 2008-02-18 09:52
» its simple.

Somebody ass raped Jack in a game once, so he now has a life-committed grudge against gaming.

And watch, just like VA Tech, this guy will have no records of playing any video games.

» Jack Thompson Annoying

Thompson: Oh noes, Brawl shouldn't be developed

Link: Yeah right idiot. *traps Thompson in his Final Smash and starts to do his Triforce smash*

» does he realize

does thompson realize nobody except those who play video games with any kind of regularity actually hears about all of this crap he does? It seems to me he's trying to talk to parents, etc, but all he does is piss off gamers. Nobody else has a clue who he is.

» Germanay

Yup, that's part of Thompson's email.

how bout the old XBOX controller O_O..

by Eclipze_ - 2008-02-18 14:35
» I'm a "gamer"

and I've never played counter strike in my life.. Would that make me any less/not a killer (not saying that I am at all lol). But I'm pretty sure everyone without a mental disability can tell the difference between a game and real life.

What he's saying is like this.. If your a gamer who plays shooting games it can cause people to kill in real life. So it should have the same effect when people play WoW or somthing, should'nt they be trying to do magic??

by org3rulz - 2008-02-18 15:45
» lol Germanay......go back to school idiot

Every time theres a campus shooting it's by some crazed lunatic who hasn't taken his meds in a while. What amazes me is that Jack Thompson NEVER realizes that. If this guy STUDIES campus shootings like everyone says he does then why THE HELL does he not figure the pattern out. Any sane gamer can tell the difference between right and wrong clearly he believes ALL gamers are immature brats sitting at home bashing the hell out of our keyboards playing counter strike etc. We have lives JACK none of us would like to go to school and spray an entire class with bullets.

"This is how you do this"? WTF you threaten people with lawsuits just so you could information that I bet you know doesn't exist?

Now that my rant is over i think ill play some counter strike lol

» Jack Thompson and fanboys share the same mentality...

...with their unrelenting and irrational hatred towards certain companies, gaming systems and developers (except Jack hates them all), to the point of stupidity.

The truth doesn't matter to them. Their minds are already made up and so they exaggerate and twist facts to mean what they what it to mean, and would simply make statements as if they are fact, with or without sources to back them up.

They also enjoy the notoriety and hatred they receive from some for their extreme views, and the adoration from others who share their opinions, giving them an ego boost which keeps them coming back for more.

So take a good look at Jack Thompson fanboys, since this is how many of you behave on forums, and therefore he is an example of what you would be if you were to act the same way within your choosen profession/career. :|

» ...

He can't even write Germany, but he wants to sue the whole gaming world? What an idiot...

by mikekearn - 2008-02-19 03:21
» Ditto

Well said, Yaz. I hadn't really thought of it that way before, but it makes sense. The problem of course is that rabid fanboys are just irritating trollers online. Jackass Thompson, on the other hand, is a sick and disturbed individual who tries to pull this crap in real life and twist tragedies into his own agenda.

by hush404 - 2008-02-19 04:15
» yeah

I agree man. He jumps on anything. I hope someone out there notices his crap and takes his license to practice law. He's already had is suspended for such actions.

by pissteeth - 2008-02-19 06:03
» WHAT?

I thought Jack Thompson Wanted to keep kids from playing violent games, this dude was 27. Does he want to ban any games that feature guns? If we do that we might as well start burning books and bring back witch hunts.

by Eclipze_ - 2008-02-19 08:35
» lmao

play some counter strike xD.

by shabghai360 - 2008-02-20 16:19
» good point

At 27 we cannot blame anything but mental instability.

If we assume there is some truth to violent games impacting childrens behaviour in later life then the plumber Mario is to blame.

So nintendo better get their lawyers ready as JT is in town on a witch hunt.
