There's a newer wrist strap in town

We think it is safe to say that the Wiimote straps fiasco has finally stopped by now. It would be remembered that one of the first few minor setbacks encountered by users is the rather easily broken wrist straps that led to a series of injuries and broken appliances. Nintendo, on the other hand, was quick to respond by providing replacements.

Yep, it is all over now but Nintendo isn't taking any chances. Judging from this snapshot, it seems that Nintendo just shipped in a new version of Wiimote straps. According to Marl0, one reader of gaming site Go Nintendo, he asked for a replacement and these were what he received.

If you ask us, they sure look different. How about you guys? Did you ask for any replacements and got something a bit different? Share some of your pictures and stories with us.

Well I work in an EB games in Canada, we received the updated straps and they look jsut like the original, with thicker staps obviously, those roundish ones in the picture look like 3rd party or something.

I put my information in to receive the replacements and I got the same as Endracion described, just as the old ones but with thicker straps. The new wii remotes now also have the thicker straps in place and I have yet to see one like those shown above.

They're obviously not Nintendo, they look cheap and tacky despite the fact that they're thicker. I'm sure that like myself, Nintendo believes the second version to be over kill, why would they create an ugly third strap that doesn't even include the brand names.

I received my replacements a few weeks ago, and they're just the same straps as before. Well thicker. Nothing like these pictures! But the design for these are not shabby either. The soft silicon-looking plastic might not damage/scratch the wiimote when you're flicking it, so it would be interesting if Nintendo considered the idea.

I recieved mine 8am 23rd january (GMT) and they are all official and not dodgy looking at all.

I was shocked to get them actually i sent off for them weeks ago and had forgotten all about them. I have been thrashing wii sports/zelda/rayman and wii play and have yet to have any casualties due to wiimote...

I only sent off for them because they were free and I heard I may need it... so i ordered 4 of them for my 2 wii motes :)

I got a note with the things too that reads:

The following tips are advised for safe play:

+ always wear the wrist strap

+ keep a firm grip on the wiimote

+ make sure people and objects are out of range of movement before playbegins

+ Players should keep at leats 3 feet from their sets and DRY THEIR HANDS IF THEY BECOME SWEATY OR WET FOR ANY REASON.

+ Remember that the wiimote is responsive enough to detect minor movements - so excessiveand forceful actions are not necessary. Therefore we recommend not to use excessively rapid, violent, or wide swinging motions while using the wiimote during gameplay.

... wow i felt told off and I hadn't lost grip of the thing once. All i can think is that those crazy americans are smashing ***** blaming nintendo and looking to appear on judge judy with a law suit.

The image looks... odd. it looks like the 4 straps on the left are a little... higher than the one one the right. Like the ends everyone thinks look different aren't really part of the strap. Also, I don't see Ninty's name anywhere on the "new" ones. I'm calling shenanigans.
