Welcome to our first ever edition of the Wii Weekend Warrior, where we talk about the latest news and updates for Nintendo's motion-sensing brainchild. The Wii scene's been pretty quiet lately, but things seem to be picking up speed as E3 nears. Quite a good time to start off this blog's Weekend Warrior, if I do say so myself.

Games, games, and more games!

After Super Mario Galaxy, Brawl, and Mario Kart Wii, you'd think Miyamoto would give Mario and the gang a break, but it seems they're still raring to go. Mario and the rest of the gang are back in Mario Super Sluggers, a new baseball game featuring the cast of the Mushroom Kingdom. The game will be out on August 25.

Mario's alter-ego, the rather flatulent Wario, is also back in his own platformer game, Wario Land: Shake It! You'll have to (guess what!) shake your Wiimote to execute a number of actions Wario has to do to get through the various levels. The game will be released on September 29.

Europe finally gets the long overdue Super Smash Bros. Brawl this week. Nintendo of Europe has also announced its line-up of Wii games for the rest of the year, including World of Goo (looking forward to that one), Skate It!, Okami, and the Brothers in Arms games, Earn in Blood and Road to Hill 30. Check out the release windows after the link.

Several games from other studios are also looming this year, not least of which is the latest adventure of everyone's favorite tomb raider, Lara Croft. Tomb Raider: Underworld will be out later this November. In anticipation for the release, Eidos Interactive has launched the Tomb Raider Portal.

Castlevania fans also get a treat from Konami, as they have officially revealed a new installment to the franchise for the Wii. Called Castlevania: Judgement, the game seems to be a fighting game rather than the traditional platformer. It would be fun to get the cast of Castlevania to duke things out, eh? Don't know when it'll arrive though, but hopefully it'll be sometime this year.

Koei, the studio behind the Romance of the Three Kingdoms and Dynasty Warriors franchises, will also be releasing two new games this year. These are namely Opoona and G1 Jockey Wii 2008, both coming this September.

And finally, it's time to get your fingers cracking, gamers. Activision will be releasing Guitar Hero: Aerosmith soon (if it hasn't been released yet by the time you read this). Wanna see what tracks to expect in the game? Just follow the link below.

Wii gamers missed out on the last Call of Duty iteration (boo!), which became a smash hit on other consoles. They will, however, get their hands on the next installment, Call of Duty: World at War. This time, Wii gamers get a special treat, as the game will offer support for the Wii Zapper. Very nice. Check out the game's trailers after the links.

Whoa, so many games coming for the Wii. Unfortunately, there seems to be a casualty in all of the hubbub. This is Zack & Wiki, who were last seen on a Quest for Barbaros' Treasure. It seems they might not have another adventure anytime soon, according to the Capcom's VP of Strategy.

Mega Man 9 coming to the Wii - Image 1

Wii Shop Channel

Woot! New scans from Nintendo Power have revealed that the murmurs of Mega Man 9 is indeed true, and that it's coming to WiiWare! There are eight new villains to join the pow-wow, including a new female robot. Roll could slap her silly.

Big this week on the Wii Shop Channel is Gyrostarr on WiiWare. It comes highly recommended. It's a new sci-fi space shooter from High Voltage Software that's sure to get your fingers numb by the end of the day.

Never two late

You might remember how a few months ago, the cover art of the Wii version of Okami had a watermark of IGN's logo. Capcom promised to make up for the slip up by giving gamers a free "make-good gift," and boy are they making good on it. Capcom will be giving out a double-sided Wii cover with the new watermark-free art on one side, and a new piece of original art on the other. Beautiful, yes?

That's it for this week's Wii Weekend Warrior folks! We have a whole bunch of updates for Wiibrewers as well, so watch out for our Wiibrew Weekend Warrior update coming up shortly! See you all next week!

Played "Mario Sluggers" wasnt too impressed though maybe because it was in Jap, but ill wait untill it comes out in either the US or Europe. The Wario games looks pretty cool.

I hope Nintendo can announce some games for us hardcore gamers. They said they have 7 games to announce at E3 for harcore gamers. A new Zelda or Metroid would make my day. Considering TP was a GC port im sure they would do a better job this time round(im not saying the TP was bad but could have been better in areas such as music or voice acting)

Figured it would've been named "Wiikend Warrior"

» yeah

There's some word going around about a TP sequel, but no official news on it. Maybe we'll hear something from E3.

The Conduit seems like a promising hardcore game, I'm looking forward to that one.

» Wiikend Warrior

haha I'd actually love to have named it that, but I had to concede for uniformity with the rest of the blogs. Maybe I can convince our EIC to make the Wii a special case though ;)
