They be happy

Yeah, they sold 50,000 units in 12 hours. Well here's an update to that. Two days after the Wii sold 50,000 the tills kept ringing. Games Industry reports that the Wii is now the first ever console to sell more than 105,000 units in the UK during its opening weekend.

Here's more fuel to the Wii little fire: of the 14 software titles launching with the Wii, six made it into the all-formats top 40. Zelda, debuted at number five. 105,000 Wiis consoles, 110,000 DS units, and 14 games in the top 40. If this isn't competing, I don't know what is.

Although it may be too early to proclaim that Nintendo's newest baby is trampling its next-gen counterparts, we're sure Sony and Microsoft is starting to get a little concerned. It seems Ninty's playing its cards well, and the strategy to target non-hardcore gamers is working. Let's all wait and see how the other two companies counter this.

Launch Date

Gee, I wonder if selling so many consoles in the first weekend had ANYTHING to do with this being the first console to release their only shortly after it released everywhere else in the world. This cuts down on the number of imports dramatically. Why would you buy a US one and pay the extra money when you can buy a local one not long after? So all the people who REALLY wanted one bought one local this time, instead of importing. Hopefully this is a lesson to the console manufacturers, and they'll launch world-wide from now on, instead of 9 months apart in each region.

hmm

Maybe now companies will start to respect the UK and give us the cheaper prices that our American and Japanese friends get. Just because the pound is stronger than both the yen and the dollar, doesn't mean we should pay increased prices for the exact same product.

the Netherlands also suffers.

Actually not only the UK is suffering from this price matter. In the Netherlands where I live obviously, we have the same problem, we are paying an higher price than either the US or Japan.. Actually whole Europe is... But I don't think this has anything to do with the fact that they've gone worldwide at once. It's the fact that the Wii is just different and it actualy appeals to all ages, if you are fit enough you can play. Instead of focusing just on hardware which most people don't really care about, Nintendo chose to focus on gameplay, the console gameplay hasn't change that much since the 90's. Now Nintedo shows either Sony and Microsoft the power of originality instead of graphical power. I do own a Wii and I must say, it's very amusing to play on the Wii, I never bought any console but for the Wii I made an acception and it seems to reward me. So Sony and Microsoft you both didn't see Nintendo as a threat, you both fought with each other and look Nintendo strikes hard and without mercy. In Europe Nintendo only has to compete against the XBox360 since no we can't get a PS3 yet, so I must say Nintendo increase your supply and people will buy..

yes yes

Very nice comment. I agreed with him and it is bad for us to pay more but Nintendo know we will buy them so it's all profits, correct?

.

besides.. importing the wii is kinda silly being its region restricted.. youd have to import games forever or until theres a freeloader type of thing. VC games too...
