If Nintendo officials seem to be in high spirits this week, they definitely have a good reason to be. The Wii is still on top of console sales in Japan, raking in money like there's no tomorrow.Enterbrain reported the Wii surpassing the 2 million unit mark last April 13, a short 19 weeks after its release. Then on July 8, the Wii hit 2.9 million units sold in Japan. A week later, the Wii went over the 3 million unit mark. Incredible sales like these kept the Nintendo busy producing more and more Wiis to cope with the demand.
Affordable prices and its interactive interface are the two main factors which have made the Wii so strong in Japan. Selling for only 25,000 yen (US$ 204) a piece, and offering the most interactivity in the console market, the Wii has been finding its way into the living rooms of many Japanese families.
