The Wii - Have We Been Too Focused on its Name? |
Listed in: Wii Tags:
Maybe
we've been so preoccupied with Nintendo's next-gen console's name
change that we're forgetting how good the Wii can be. During the
Tokyo Game Show, Nintendo showed off the controller that would come
with the Rev - er, Wii. And by the looks of it, Nintendo has really
given much thought to the game console, the controllers and - gasp! -
the name Wii.
These three will all be playing a part to
achieve what Nintendo had in mind when they developed the next-gen
console. Remember what Nintendo said about the Wii?
Wii
will break down that wall that separates video game players from
everybody else.
Wii will put people more in touch with
their games ... and each other. But you're probably asking: What does
the name mean?
The video
about Wii's controllers makes more sense now more than ever,
especially now that Nintendo executives have tried explaining to a
lot of gamers why they chose the name Wii in the first place. Perhaps
Nintendo also intends to use these the controllers and the console
itself to make gamers part of the gameplay, to be part of the Virtual
Reality that Nintendo wants its gamers to be take part in. Just take a
look at the use of the controller in the said video.
Somehow, Wii is starting to sound okay.

It makes it embarassing to own one! We need to create a cool nickname for it or it's going to BOMB. No cool kids or adults will want a "wii".
How about -
"The N. W."
"Wiintendo"
"The Nintendo double U"
Hell I think I'll just make a "Revolution" sticker for mine and put it over the "Wii" logo and then refuse to ever use it's infantile name.

I'll get over the name as soon as I start playing it.... hopefully.

This is just another volley from Nintendo's "We do what we want" cannon, and I respect them for their individuality. It's what I have always believed in.
Don't be a sheep people. Make up your own minds.

lmao, I was just thinking of doing the same.

I hate kids that try to act all preachy and mature on here when really they are just talking out of their a$$.
"Don't be a sheep people. Make up your own minds." Yeah, that is exactly what people did. They made up their minds that the name sounds stupid. Nintendo would love for us "sheep" to really dig their new and innovative/creative name but instead 90% of the world had a bad reaction to it. That is people thinking for themselves, not following a fad.
God you're stupid.

@ parabolee:
It seems to me that refusing to refer to a console by its proper name because of a stupid name is equally as infantile as the jokes people make about it.

Why? because it's gonna be an awesome system regardless of what it's called. The 360 can suck it and Sony's been pissing me off too much to consider the PS3 anytime soon.
That's me making up my own mind. I'll buy a system if it has good games I want to play -- something Xbox never had for me (with the exception of a few).
Nintendo never fails to deliver over time. I think that's something most everyone can agree on. It's not about great graphics and shooter after shooter after shooter. If those games suck, they suck.
Or maybe that's just me. Regardless, I'll have one as close to release day as I can.
