The next-gen console war: what Amazon Japan can see

Reservations Graph

Above is a graph that compares the reservations for the Wii console and the PS3 console on Amazon Japan. Obviously, the reservations spiked as the TGS drew nearer, which is a good thing for both Sony and Nintendo.

At first glance it may seem that the Wii is way ahead in reservations made, but if you add together the reservations made for the HDD 60GB version and the HDD20GB version of the PS3, you'll see that the PS is slightly ahead.

Again, please take note that the graph above came from reservations made in Amazon Japan. Since Japan and North America obviously have very different tastes when it comes to gaming (the old non-360 Xbox being a good example), this data can't provide us with an accurate forecast of how the console war will unfold in the US.

We'll try to see if these figures change post TGS 2006. Stay tuned.
