Doing things in Wii style usually means gesticulating in ways you normally wouldn't do. Whereas casting magic in games usually requires a button press or mouse click, the Wii wants you to wave your magic wand (the Wiimote) to get the job done.

GameTrailers has a new trailer for Electronic Arts' latest Harry Potter game, featuring just that. In this trailer, which clocks in at 1:32, watch two kids use the Wiimote and Nunchuk to perform magic spells, such as firing bolts of force and levitating objects. It's a different way to feel the magic, that's for sure, and we certainly appreciate the gesture.

In any case, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is now out in stores. Watch the trailer, get a feel for Wii-styled magic, and conjure up some cash if you want to grab a copy for yourself.

Played it.

At first, I didn't like this game. The atmosphere is great, and the interaction with other characters isn't bad, but the controls... ugh. When you flick the wiimote as directed, there's a pretty good chance it'll think you're doing a different move than you think you are. Accio and Repulso are particularly bad about this, as they are 'flick towards' and 'flick away'. After a while, you get 'Wingardium Leviosa' and that changed the feel of it. This is the -only- fun spell to play with, though. The rest are all just 1-shot spells that you have no further control over. There's a -lot- to do to get 100%. mini-games, collecting points (for doing various tasks) and other things as well. The plot is pretty straightforward and easy.

what were they thinking?

why didn't they just implement the actual movements stated from the book: Wingardium Leviosa had the "swish and flick" motion, and I don't understand why they didn't just use this? It would have been more authentic and would have made things a ton more interesting IMHO

so...

...the spell casting relies on moving the wiimote only? Meaning, you could cast stuff by accident? Seems that making you hold a button down (could be different ones for different spells that may have similar motions) to make spell casting more accurate. Or is it done that way already?
