Link shoots and scores

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess wielded its updated build at the Wii New York Event - or at least, a very subtle updated build of it. However, those who were there to view it saw more or less the same demo played last May at the E3 2006, but with a few notable changes. For one, Link is now right-handed, and next, players are now able to control his sword via the Wiimote.

Featuring two familiar stages, a dungeon and a fishing level, this updated Zelda build shows why it is poised to be the best entry into the lucrative Wii franchise yet. The lake in the game is described as "graphically gorgeous" as it shimmers realistically and seemingly comes to life with transparencies and lighting effects.

The more exciting part about it is that with the Wiimote, actual fishing is made even more fun. By holding down the Wiimote's A button, pulling the pointer back and then casting it forward as they would as if they were really casting a line, gamers are able to experience Zelda-fishing, Wii-style. After casting the line, players can then choose to lure a fish in by wiggling the Wiimote left and right, which in turn wiggles the bait and hook. To reel in a fish, just pull back on the Wiimote and then make an inward reeling motion with the nunchuk attachment. As soon as the fish is hooked, the Wiimote will buzz in alarm.

But what is deemed to be the biggest addition to the demo is the new sword-fighting mechanic. Although Zelda fanboys may be disappointed because Link is now a rightie, it has to be said that Nintendo had the best intentions in mind when they went for this change. They had to consider the factor which side would give that natural feel in swinging the character's arm with the Wiimote, and their finding is that the Wiimote is typically gripped in the right hand, while the nunchuk is in the left. Thrusting the Wiimote forward would cause Link to thrust his sword, and that's but one of the many things that Link can do with the Wii-controlled sword. By merely flicking the wrist or flailing the arms, there certainly is a lot of potential for movement.

Indeed, Twilight Princess just seems to keep those surprises coming. We would sure love to see more of the game, and we definitely can't wait for its launch. But in the meantime, we'd just have to content ourselves with these new screens and some videos.

This game is going to be the most overrated piece of trash since Halo. The last two Zelda games are widely regarded as dissappointment s and there is no sign that this one will be any different. In fact, the only Zelda game that is in the range of "good" is Ocarina of Time. The series wasn't even that popular until then.

The only reason this game is even being made is because of 80's nostalgia and because Nintendo doesn't have an ounce of creativity. That's why they've been rehashing a hand-full of kiddy franchises for over 20 years.

After screwing their GameCube owners with a fake 3 week delay, I can't see how anyone can support them.

OMG Nintendo has ruined this franchise. First "Celda" and now this stupid control setup. And on top of that, Link is now right-handed. WTF LINK IS A LEFTY!!! At least we can still buy it for the GC, but we'll have to wait even longer for no good reason. Nintendo has no respect for this franchise or its fans. I don't think I'll ever buy a Nintendo system again.

"Nintendo has no respect for this franchise or its fans."

Are you on crack? Nintendo had fans at heart. If they hadn't cared about the fans and only the 'franchise', they'd have left him a lefty and the game would have been nearly unplayable for the majority of the world.

If Nintendo cares about its fans so much, why are they rehashing their failed hardware (GameCube) as a next-gen system and delaying the GC version by almost a month? They just want money and they give nothing back to the gamers or the industry. ***** them.

For those of you trying to even discredit Zelda , you can shove up yours, it's better than Halo or Gta , which are apparently the flagship games on the otehr consoles.

Link is just to good , and when you see a sucessful oposition , you get jealous that you can't have it and try to make it seem bad. I hope you rot in your insufficent brain space.

# Nintendo needs to grow upGuest 2006-09-15 09:08
Nintendo really does need to quit with the rehashes. Zelda is from a time before the videogame industry matured. That's why GTA and Halo and MGS are awesome. The developers saw that gamers didn't want kiddy games, so the industry matured. Nintendo and its games are relics and they really need to stop with this baby *****.

# Rehashes , ha like sony or 'soft can talkGuest 2006-09-15 09:14
No offense , but it's on GTa, what 6 now? Metal Gear solid 4 or something , and that dosen't even count the real orignals (ON the NES i might add).

And if the gamers don't want "kiddy nintendo" games , why is the DS kicking the PSP's arse?

PS3 and Xbox 360 may have some kiddy games, but Wii only has kids games. Why deny it?. Nintendo is for children. Trying (and failing) to defend them is just pathetic. Anyone who buys this ***** and is over 13 is a total dork.

Because the DS is cheaper and appeals more to non gamers and people with budgets.

# what's wrong with you people?Guest 2006-09-16 02:17
First of all, Zelda was definitely big before ocarina of time. WAY before that. Zelda is a classic. It's like mario, you can't hate on it. And as for the "rehashes": that's why it's called a FRANCHISE, you can't have a franchise with only one game. Ya know why they made so many Zelda games? Cuz people like them!! (excluding you people obviously.) And as for Nintendo making kiddy games, yes they do, ya know why? CUZ KIDS PLAY VIDEO GAMES TOO! But Zelda is NOT a kiddy game, (ok, yea wind waker was kiddy, but look at this new game, this does NOT look kiddy, do you see those graphics? that fighting gameplay? i can't wait to play this thing) Zelda appeals to all game players (that's why its such a good franchise) and this game does not look like it will dissapoint anyone. as for Link suddenly being right handed, i understand that. Obviously that's so that people can use the wiimote more easily.

P.S. just cuz nintendo doesn't have a major game series that focuses on promoting sex, crime, and drugs doesn't mean that they don't have non-kid games. That's not the definition of an Adult game btw.
