Talking about his latest game, The Last Story, Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi expressed "a strong feeling this may be my last work." The mere thought of him leaving the industry is a sad prospect, but fortunately, now is not the time to think about that just yet.
The official translation of that statement is now up on the English Mistwalker site, and good news, The Last Story will not be the last game for Hironobu Sakaguchi.
The energy poured into this project by the development team and I are 120%. I’m hoping you can understand that, however on the other hand, I feel worried and nervous like sending my child on a trip alone. Emotionally it feels like this is my last work, while pouring everything I have gotten into this project. Never regret, but now “I’m enjoying”; furthermore, aiming towards completion. The sense of “This is it” relaxes my shoulders, its pleasant feeling to conduct an orchestra by the sense of my intuition.
So as it turns out, he was just speaking figuratively. Funny how a little lapse in translation could miss that little detail. For now, it's still great to know that Hironobu Sakaguchi is still making games.
