The ladies of gaming want their due, but...

The Frag Dolls own us. It's always an interesting sight to see when news makers like Reuters talk about video games. It makes you realize that we're slowly getting more exposure and acceptance the way rock and roll and television managed to grow out of obscurity and into the public consciousness.

Of course, it would probably be better if we were talked about in the news for good reasons, and for wholly positive things. Women in gaming, while stereotypical as a topic of discussion for news and features articles are always worth talking about, if only because you can be sure that there are gamers who are better than you and are female.

The Frag Dolls (pictured left) of Ubisoft and the PMS clan are perhaps two of the most prominent female FPS gaming clans out there, not only because of their skill, but also because their core members look good. While the common statement among lady gamers happens to be promoting games and gamers of all genders (rather than focusing on men), does it really help that these female gamers look good?

Even Frag Doll Morgan Romine mentioned that "by virtue of being a novelty we usually got a bit of attention." Until women gamers are treated beyond the stereotype, without the focus of women in games being some sort of sexual stereotype, it seems very unlikely that people in general (and gamers in particular) will really offer full-fledged respect to gaming as a medium and female gamers as a norm, regardless of looks.

» Girls and games are a strange mix.

See, girls would be cool if they weren't attention whores. When the join clans called "PMS" or have tags like "Sexy*insert name here*" they should expect to get attention.

Maybe if they weren't so annoying and obnoxious on live it would be better. Especially since its hard to tell the difference of a 12 year old boy from an adult womans voice. Women are annoying to talk to in real life, why would I want to on a video game? I wish Xlive had keyboard support!

Yeah, that's fine that women play games but I really don't give a *****. Like it's a big accomplishment. And this article wouldn't get any publicity if they were fat. And I've never met PMS, but

BRING THEM OOOOOOOOON

XBOX LIVE: Andre BLANKS

Bring it on *****es. And bake me a pie while you're at iiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiiiiiiiiiiiii iiiitttt!

im sick of hearing of the frag dolls, they are over-exposed and attention whores because they represent "the female gamer". If you seen any of their videos you will what complete *****es they are to others, this one video this clan of guys wanted to shake their hands for a good game and they flip them off.

» why is this here?

1.) Not even a looker in the bunch

2.) PSP news site? this is pointless

I'm all for women gaming, but this don't belong here. This site sucks.. homebrew is stupid and so many useless articles.

» ummm..

These girls don't even look that great. I can go to the mall and close my eyes, spin around, and point in any direction and have about a 99% chance to pick a girl that looks a LOT better than them. Who cares if some ugly, attention driven girls can beat me in a game...I have more important things to do than play games all day while "trying" to attractive by wearing tight clothing that, may I say, doesn't even look good on them.. BLAH.

» These chicks are a joke

These chicks are hot but they totally suck at gaming. I played against one of them a couple weeks ago in Halo 2. Played a game of Big Team Slayer with her (forgot her name) but she had something pathetic like 3 kills and 20 deaths (in a 8-on-8 match up to 100). We totally lost because of her and she was one of the worst *****ing teamates I've ever had.

Sure, they are hot but they are eye candy for dorks and that's it. Just make sure they aren't stuck on your team if you get caught playing with them online.

I remember playing an all-girl clan in SOCOM 2 with the clan tag [PMS] don't know if it's the same group of chics, but they wooped just about every other clan they played. I heard they played drunk alot too and still won, lol.

by giveaphuk - 2006-09-24 17:14
» All this sexiness screams fake!

if they were a real clan, wouldn't they have a fat chick who pwn's us all? Seems like every guy based clan has @ least one fat dude in it..

All this sexiness screams fake!

» Who cares about Female clans?

For every good girl gamer, there are hundreds of guys. Big freakin' whoop. Props for getting girls to play, but for damn sure doesn't make you special...

by slack04 - 2006-09-24 17:31
» they're not really attractive

seriously, if you think these girls look good then you don't see many girls.

im getting fed up of hearing about these, im a girl gamer and could care less, just play the games and shut up allready? all they want is attention mostly, i heard they was pretty crap on xbox live haha

» thats funny...

no.21 that was funny...

the girls in the pic dont look that bad, seen worse, not sure about there gaming skills though (cannot tell from a pic)... all you lot saying they look like dogs, need to mature a bit...

anyways, my friends wont play against me if the game has SniperRifles or any long distance weapons... I can normally take out game characters in one shot... I just really like long distance weapons there is great satisfaction in seeing someone running in the distance to be stopped in there tracks with one shot... :)

by hush404 - 2006-09-24 23:33
» here's a thought

If they're fighting to break the female gamer stereotype then maybe, just maybe, the way to go about that isn't to jump into the media and claim "look at me!!".

These kind of 'female only' clans have been around for a while, it's nothing new and as for being stereotyped, it's mostly the fault of the media in the first place. Gamers (for the most part) are fine with female gamers and don't make a huge fuss over it, but the media paints a different picture, where the female gamer is a rarity.

That said, why even try to change the view of the media? They'll see what they want and the fact that there's a group(s) of female gamers protesting such a subject just adds to the medias idea that a female gamer is something rare and news worthy.

Please stop setting your standards so high.

Oh, and ya.. I'd hit that.

by jabberwocky20 - 2006-09-25 01:14
» What about when they grow up?

When they're in their 50's will they ditch the PMS clan name and go for something flashy like ohhh I dunno...the MENOPAUSE clan :P...LOL?

by Nameless - 2006-09-25 17:49

Why don't you just f_ck a dog while you're at it.

The ability to reserve oneself beyond basic instinct is what seperates humans from animals. Having higher standards should be encouraged, not discrouraged.
