The component cables really do make a difference! |
Ó

Chris Kohler of Wired Blogs' Game Life was quite miffed that component didn't come out of the box for the Wii. Granted, not everyone in the country - let alone the world - owns a TV that could put out at least 480p. And component will come out as a separately sold accessory on Launch Day.
Not for HDTV-owning gaming journalists like Chris, though. And "Nintendo of America heard the frustrated cry of HDTV-owning journalists around the country and got component cables overnighted to us." D**n if the job doesn't have perks.
Okay, so do component cables make the difference in gameplay experience? It's not like the Wii could output 720p, only 480p, right? Well, try Mr. Kohler's compare-and-contrast shot of Zelda TP. Tip: 480p on the right.

Quote the Kohler if cables make a difference in gameplay: "You bet your a** it does." And one other thing:
Nintendo promises that component cables will be available at Best Buy, Gamestop, and other B&M retailers at Wii launch. If you can't find them, my advice is: b***h. B***h loud and b***h long. It worked for me, it can work for you.

About three weeks ago I sent an email to NOA arguing that it was ridiculous and cruel that the Component Cables were only going to be sold online. Than a week after, Perri Kaplin (spelling?) went on the record that the cables will now be sold in stores.
I'm sure I wasn't the only one to call them out, but every voice needs to be heard. Though I did also complain that they should have been packed in with the system with no cost... that didn't change anything.
If you resize the left picture, it'll look just like the right one. If you zoom in on the right one, it'll look just like the left one.
It's not sharper or anything.
does the wii console not come with cables to hook to your tv????? im not quite sure I undertand this article entirely.
That's true for these pics, but on an LCD, you can definitely see the difference with your eyes. I wish they hadn't used different zooms on this and messed up their entire presentation.
Yes, it comes with the standard old RCA cables you are used to. (Composite.)
It does not come with high definition cables needed for better display quality. (Component, DVI, HDMI.)
