Wii homebrew for sale (Copyright? What's that?) - Image 1Team Twiizers has a new post up on hackmii, exposing some services that provide homebrew packages and guides. marcan specifically names HomebreWare, but doesn't cite the other one to avoid giving them more traffic.

It's a long and informative post, but in a nutshell, the marcan wants you to know that these "guides" violate copyright after copyright, and you're being ripped off if you buy them, and if you're a Wiibrew dev, you should take action against them as well.

marcan elaborates on the issue point-by-point, singling out several of the licenses HomebreWare violated (from Wiibrew devs and Nintendo alike), and the erroneous information they spread (like "No it can't [brick your console]").

The matter is a bit too complex for me to attempt to summarize sufficiently here, but you can follow the source link below for the complete post. You should read the comments section of marcan's post as well. The owner of HomebreWare has several responses to marcan, even promising to revise the entire guide.

» Hm

Well sure. The same thing happens with the PSP scene. Ever heard of Datel? But that shouldn't stop homebrewers from keeping on coding. Unless you mean they should start charging for their stuff as well?

» yeh but...

theres always gonna lazy people who, would rarther pay someone to do it for them instead of research how to do it themselfs

» True

The difference in this case is that they didn't pay the homebrew coders for their work. They just took it and redistributed it, asking people to pay for something that wasn't theirs to sell.

» I hate this kinds of companies

For this reason alone I hope that the PSP 3000 will never be hacked. Datel is pretty much depending on hackers to dump the pre-ipl because their Blue Tool battery already puts the PSP 3000 halfway into service mode. I hope they lose a lot of money for this.

» Another Datel!?

Seriously, why do we need another Datel? It's one thing to be annoyed by one company that steals for business, but two!? Man, this is just making me angry. *grumblegrumble *

» ok, if you believe that, I accept it, for me Wii is Cool.

The most Best- Selling Console in the world, and now almost in pares with the PSP in Homebrew Scene, makes Trainee-coders like me be more interested in coding than never, I start coding because I like it, is easy and fun. The more you know the better, the more alliances you made with other coders for your own advantage and other's benefits and the scene its good. Well what about it? They want to sell it, that's not bad I mean as long as they don't corrupt the Open Source Wii Development Scene. This doesn't mean they have to sell all of his apps, they can make Freeware and Comercial. Like Wine and Crossover, the same ***** but one with " more features ". What, 5 bucks for it? May be 8.90 for the massive progam, 2 to 3 dollars for the less productive ones..

But always keep the Open Source with freeware Homebrew, and homebrew will not be homebrew...

Thanks !
