Dean Takahashi of Mercury News - Image 1Dean Takahashi from The Mercury News claims that "Sony pleaded with third-party developers not to abandon its struggling platform," and believes the change in attitude "is a marked difference compared to the arrogance of past years." Takahashi's speculations after the release of NPD's sales charts for September favor the Microsoft Xbox 360, as he expresses doubts if the Sony PlayStation 3 can offer something good this holiday season.

Takahashi believes the Xbox 360 will lead with big titles like Mass Effect and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, noting that even multiplatform games will sell more units on Microsoft's console than those on the Sony PS3. Nintendo is putting up a fight with Super Mario Galaxy, but Ninty would've posed a bigger threat if Super Smash Bros. Brawl wasn't delayed. Sony, on the other hand, is limping with Ratchet & Clank: Tools of Destruction without other potential big sellers.

Even the release of Sony's 40GB PS3 selling for US$ 399 is not enough to convince Takahashi that the former leader in the gaming industry can move out of third place this generation. "The Wii is doing surprisingly well given the hype around Halo 3," he added.

non sense

He sayed the the x360 should sell more because of... and and put some multiplatform in the bag! :S Mass effect will maybe sell well, but the ps3 will have (in exclusivity) Unchated, Ratchet and Clank future, etc, and the ps3 now cost 499$ (80g with motorstorm) so... And for the price, the 40g will pop in the holidays at 399$... wich is lower than some x360 versions... So I think that Mr. Takahashi is really a nobody that nobody should listen to... Anyway, why Qj posted his thoughts? I mean, I think about a lot of things, but QJ do not post it! :S lol ps: I'm not saying the ps3 will win the war, but that the ps3 should win, the holidays (against the x360, not the wii, lol)

Mercury news is popular?

How many people actually read The Mercury News anyways? I'm pretty sure more people in the bay area read The Onion than The Mercury News. When this guy starts writing for the Chronicle, maybe I'll start taking him seriously. Until then, just another media hack like Mariotti.

how much did microsoft pay you for that spiel of p!sh??? if the devs are being wooed, then its better than bribing devs like m$ does!! i mean how much did rockstar get paid for the exclusive content??? that itself says it all!! sorry folks, but this is my opinion!!!
