Here's something that should make Microsoft happy. According to a recent survey, the failure rates for the Xbox 360 console is actually on the decline thanks in part to the introduction of the Jasper chipset.

The survey was conducted by SquareTrade, which is supposedly the largest independent warranty provider in the world. The data they collected apparently shows that RROD instances have steadily been declining since Q2 2008. The Jasper chipset, rolled out late last year, is also believed to have "likely solved" the problem.

The survey also covered the PS3 and Wii. Of the three consoles, the Wii was found to be nine times more reliable than the Xbox 360 and four times more reliable than the PS3. Wii owners were found to more likely encounter power and remote control issues while PS3 and Xbox 360 owners had more trouble with disc read errors and output issues.

You can check out SquareTrade's full report in this PDF file.

» Ironically though...

My Wii is the one console I always have problems with :/ It's always turning on by itself randomly, spitting out disks, while its OFF, and while its ON.

ugh...

by the way, where's my new Zelda? that's the only reason I bought a Wii in the first place >__>

Its really not suprising... the Wii is such a cheap POS, you would hope that it would have at least reliability on its side. The PS3 has been most impressive throughout IMO. The 360 situation is just a little humerous... I mean the damn thing sounds like a vacuum cleaner and I still gets the RROD? Its the same damn multicore CPU that many people have in their computers... how hard can it be to cool off the damn thing?

Afcorse the wii is reliable cuz no plays it for more than one hour unlike Ps3 and 360 which is played for much longer than wii

» Out of all of them

the Wii has the least amount of moving parts. It doesn't even have a Hard Drive and I doubt any of the Wii games will push the Revolution speed anywhere near enough to create any heat. Not to mention low end CPU and GPU makes less heat as well.

» Agree

I agree, my Wii is only on for maybe 2 hours a month. My PS3 is on for two hours every day.

» Well.

I'm on my 3rd 360 (and I'm pretty sure it's going to be dead within the next couple of months), and I've had to send my Wii into repair once (Fan stopped working, so it over heated).

The only console I've never had any problems with would be my PS3 (and that's probably because it doesn't get much play time).

» Agreed

My Wii has been on only 1 hour in the past 2 years. Nothing worth playing will do that to a console. You can't get low reliability numbers from something that is never used! However, I am on my second 3rd 360 and the system that gets the most use has never failed. PS3 for the win for me.

» took them *****ing long enough

Maybe with this new jasper chipset Microsoft will stop treating their customers like inconveniences and liars expecting them to pay shipping for Microsoft's *****ups.

Looks like I'm getting a ps3 when it comes time to buy a new system after the experiences friends have told me of dealing with Microsoft.

» this is a joke n doesn't add up

they never used any numbers 2 show anything worth talking about the satats of system failures............smells like a M$ speech where they just try 2 dodge the question by answer we r the best at blab blab blab...............some1 got paid 2 make M$ look less like producing trash..............................ironic just like the x box announced a price cut after ps3 and claim it had nothing 2 do with the ps3......................i bet some one got a fat check from M$

by xCraftx - 2009-09-02 12:42
» Wow Really...?

Because I had to pay $83 to get my Wii disc drive fixed because it stopped reading discs after about 2000 hours of use (Similar to how the gamecube did it). (oh and it was guitar hero 3 that i played the most haha)

I predict that "if" people start playing the Wii as a hardcore system, disc read errors will become a large problem just like for the gamecube.

» according 2 their logic from the article

4 every 1 Wii that broke 4 ps3 broke N 9 xbox broke.........last time i check Wii was 1-2 % failuree rate while ps3 was 2% and xbox was over 33% not incliding that last survey that show xbox with about 54% failure rate............................according 2 this no number estimate x box has just a bit over double the amount ps3 failure rates........................what i don't understand is how can 33% b counted as double of 2 % failure rates.............it mor like 16.5 %

» lol 1 hour in 2 years?

You should def sell that thing while people still want them then. I unloaded my Wii as soon as I exhausted its 5 or so good games. Got about what I payed for it on eBay

I've actually had no problems with any console this gen, I have 2 360s, one normal from launch and one Elite when it launched, no problems. Cept for when my Elite's HDD failed, but that miiiight have been because I hit it when I got mad at COD. lulz. And of course no problems with my PS3.

» huh?

Have your friends been telling you they had to pay shipping to MS? Your friends are stupid lol. MS used to send a prepaid box at no charge, now they give you a prepaid shipping label to print out. Just need to find a box. There is no charge unless you don't have a box, which is like $1.

@Master Chef

Its easy to say something logical when the situation doesn't belong to you. What happens, is when the console breaks... you stop thinking and start "feeling". So basically it temporarily turns you into a female, and whatever you "feel" at that time is going to come out of your mouth. Theres no logic... just feeling. So your pissed to the point where you dont notice MS paid for the shipping already... doesnt suprise me much lol. Ive had things like that happen to me.

» I want a survey done

on the rise of E74 Error though =(

» Not a surprise

Nintendo has never made anything that hasn't been reliable in recent history at least. The Gamecube was a tank and so were all their handhelds. Not surprised the Wii is the "most reliable" the only thing holding the Wii back from core popularity is its lack of good games. I bought my Wii for Zelda, Metroid and Mario. I'm still waiting for my next Zelda ....

My fist 360 died within the first 2 hours of use... but that 3 years ago. My current one is having disc problems but no rrod yet. On the other hand, I've had to RMA a wii once due to drive issues. At least there as been no problems as of yet for my ps3 though.

Well yeah about decent games, all I play on my Wii is madworld and world tour. Although I havent actually playerd either of those for the last 2 months, my wii hasnt got any love for 2 months.

No I would say the things holding the wii back from been decent is its selling point, tacked on motion control. And good games, and bad hardware (CPU not good enough to supply for powerful games, same with GPU... derr...). It also dosent have a harddrive wihich it really should have,

I can't stand my wii anymore, i think ill sell it on ebay. Ill just keep playing my PS3. It gets more love in a day than my wii gets in half a year.
