Super Smash Brothers Brawl website update: The Final Smash

The Smash Ball - Image 1Items in the Super Smash Brothers series have always been a point of contention amongst fans. Some see using the items as an unfair way to win, with "cheap" and "unbalanced" the key words being thrown about. Others see them as another level of gameplay in the already deep beat-em-up system that is Super Smash Brothers, and adds more to the fun. Regardless of what you think about items, though, here's the latest addition to the Super Smash Brothers Brawl item list - the Smash Ball.

While it certainly looks cute, being multicolored and having swirly lights and all, the Smash Ball has a deadlier purpose: once attained, it enable your character to perform his or her own Final Smash - a devastating attack that the website describes as "a powerful and personalized hammer."

This could be the "super" system we've been hearing much speculation about, what with screenshots we've seen of Mario incinerating an entire stage with a Fire Flower blast, and Link slashing someone up in a Triforce pattern. The "personalized" part of the update could also mean that each Final Smash is unique to the character - which is yet another treat, as we can't help but speculate on what sort of Final Smash the latest characters would pull off. (A Metal Gear flying in and carpet-bombing the stage, anyone?)

We'll keep you updated on all things about Super Smash Brothers Brawl, so keep it locked right here for any and all developments!

» Better than a meter

That is a lot better than a special meter that grows everytime you hit someone. I like it.
