Super Smash Bros. Brawl not working? Nintendo wants to help fix the problem |
Ó
The repair form for Super Smash Bros. Brawl notes,
Super Smash Bros. Brawl utilizes a double-layer disc which has a large memory capacity. A very small percentage of Wii consoles may have trouble consistently reading data off this large capacity disc if there is some contamination on the lens of the disc drive. Nintendo has specialized cleaning equipment that can resolve this problem. (Please do NOT attempt to clean the lens yourself, as you may damage the system.)
Yes folks. If you live in the a US territory or in Canada, and your copy won't play, you're going to need to get that Wii cleaned up. Just fill up the repair form located at the link below, and you should be on your way to getting that Wii ready for play. Unfortunately, it means you'll have to spend some time living without your Wii, but it's a small price to pay for Super Smash Bros. goodness.

Comments [refresh]
it really does sound like something more than a dirty lens. Faulty hardware? Improper game coding? Or is a slighty dirty lens on a wii going to be the main cause of games not working?
Double-layer discs have been a STANDARD DVD FORMAT for YEARS. This is a CODING problem, not a lens problem.
@InTheZoneAC
Could be, stuff like this usually happens with many large-release games. Like my friend with a 360 is on his 3rd Halo 3 disc since the other two failed on his. I feel sorry for the people whose Wii's gotta be cleaned up, and as I'm hopefully getting Brawl very soon, I hope mine is fine.
where credit is due. i was the first one to email your, right?
screw these next-gen consoles. too many probs
it must be faulty Wii's But man went to the tornament last night at gamestop. I got 3rd place but the game is amazing.
as the 3rd place goes, using the wii remote + Nunchuk is extremely weird first time out.
anyway, as far as the game goes, i got 3 copies, tested on 3 different systems, and the new systems reads a lot faster, so i think it's the system not cleaned properly
If the lens really was dirty, wouldn't a lens cleaning disc work? Me thinks its a hardware problem Nintendo doesn't want to admit. DVD is a revolutionary next gen technology by Nintendo's standards so they probably can't get it right yet.
if systems didn't have a dvd players in them they would be so much cheaper. childish adults aka mister common sense are so sad.
well anyways look at the 360 stupid thing has problems even WORKING my goodness......i hope there arent to many people having problems
If the Wii didn't have a DVD drive Nintendo would still charge $250 and people would still pay $400 on ebay for the Wii. Nintendo's cheap ass probably considered doing that, but then it would have even more in common with the Gamecube.
Definitely a series error by Nintendo. Tsk Tsk, I've never seen them mess up their star games like this before.
your Economics skills suck. the more hardware you put in something the more its going to cost. take the dvd player out of the 360 it would be cheaper.
...and dirty lenses have had a problem reading multi layered discs for years. If it was a coding problem all the discs would have problems because they are all created from the same masters. Research how games are manufactured before you discuss it.
I thought people that frequented this site actually knew something about the systems they play on. The Wii does NOT HAVE A DVD PLAYER!!! Therefore, Mister Common Sense, Wii games are not put on DVD's! That's just downright common sense...
I would say some consoles are defective. I know from experience fixing PS2s that the distance between laser lens and disc is critical in reading different types of discs. This is most likely the problem even though Nintendo thought of a crafty lie to hide the fact that some Wii consoles are indeed defective. If the read problem was indeed due to dirty lasers and only Nintendo can properly clean them, wouldn't people have to send in their Wiis on a regular basis?
Nintendo released a cleaning kit to address problems with the blinking light on the original NES. They didn't say "send it in, only we can clean it with our "specialized cleaning equipment." Funny thing is, Nintendo designed the blinking light problem into the NES to prevent unauthorized games from working, but when the connector got dirty from use, it would blink with all games!
Why do you always feel the need to lie Nintendo? Oh yes, because the Wii's reliability was a strong selling point even though other last gen systems had the same reliability.
"The Wii does NOT HAVE A DVD PLAYER!!! Therefore, Mister Common Sense, Wii games are not put on DVD's! That's just downright common sense..."
Since you have no common sense, I'll fill you in on the console you own yet I do not. I know the Wii doesn't play DVDs, it has a DVD drive to store games though. This is the first game to use a dual layer disc, and it doesn't work on some units.
It's funny, everyone hates my comments, yet nobody can prove me wrong.
WHAT THE SHAT!?!??! I personally have proven u wrong many many times on here but u never reply because u know your wrong not just me however the Users Demondirk, Billie, Wiiplay, among others have too YOU just cant seem to realize when youve been proven wrong!!! With this article no one has come up with enough evidence to support nintendo so maybe you are right i mean we cant really know for sure if Nintendo is just having problems with theyre consoles But seriously dont get to *****y you being right would be a first.
Like The Obsidian said, users like the ones he mentioned and of course, ISOHaven, have utterly proved you wrong in some of your statements. Common sense tells that you'd look back on things to make sure they are right...x_X (facepalm)
Oh yeah, I got Brawl, and it's great!
Just one link. Not the SNES emulator one because ISOHaven just ranted on and on like a child about 50's cars being the same thing as roms.

The DvD is cool but demondirk the 360 DvD doesnt make the system cheaper I had no problem with my system.
