Studio explains why The Conduit won't support MotionPlus |
Ó
Everyone went ga-ga over the Wii MotionPlus when it was first announced by Nintendo. The promise of added motion sensitivity was really an appealing idea, especially for The Conduit, the first promising first-person shooter for the Wii. The game was actually one of the first to announce that they'll offer support for it.
A few days ago, however, High Voltage Software announced that they decided not to offer support for the accessory. The studio's chief creative officer, Eric Nofsinger, explains that although they could have offered support for the MotionPlus, it really wasn't necessary to make the game better:
We could have included support for Wii MotionPlus as Nintendo provided us with early hardware and good developer support. However when we actually implemented it for the Conduit, it didn't really add anything for our primarily ranged combat.
We had hoped that it would allow for better off screen IR tracking, but the device seems to lend itself more naturally for hand to hand combat where the player can calibrate in-between bouts. And that just doesn't feel like an optimal fit for how we had designed our moment to moment gameplay.
They actually made a couple of prototype melee weapons designed for the MotionPlus, but they scrapped them, having not enough time to fully implement them before the game's release date. Good call, High Voltage. Why fix something that isn't broken?

sounds reasonable....
This way nobody is forced to buy the new accessory.
BTW, does somebody know if it is a requirement for games which support Motion+ ?
Looks like the soon to be announced motion plus minigame collection will be the only game to support this crap accessory.
"Conduit: The first promising first person shooter for Wii."
I know this is off topic, but why does everyone hate Metroid Prime 3!?!
