Street Fighter: the Legend of Chun-Li gets knocked out at box office |
Ó
The Far Side moment: "What am I thinking, I can't do martial arts," she thought
How bad? Let's just say that three of Uwe Boll's movies beat its opening gross. And that's without adjustments for inflation. Even the original Van Damme Street Fighter movie beat it. The Legend of Chun-Li grossed US$ 4.65 million for its opening weekend. Not a total bust of course, but come on. I at least hoped that Kristin Kreuk would pull in the fanboys.
In case you were wondering, the three Uwe Boll movies are "In the Name of the King," "Alone in the Dark," and "House of the Dead."
Now. Will anyone care to wager how Dragonball: Evolution will go?
Don't worry Chun-Li, we still love you:

twas a better movie, but a better movie does not guarantee more money.
it would probably do a lot better on dvd/bluray.
i thought it was a nice start for a saga, but with popularity like this it might be a stretch to get investors for a follow up.
I never really saw it advertised. The last Street Fighter was horrible and still in the back of peoples mind. The title itself sounds cheesy. The only good move they made was to release it when SFIV came out.
I had absolutely no idea this movie even existed....
I have not seen a single ad at the cinema for this. Let alone anything on TV. Those three movies you quoted had quite reasonable advertising campaigns, WTF is going on with cinema advertising lately. Do they think the internet is enough these days, I only see like mega block busters advertised, eg James Bond.
I tell you when directors make crap it sure do stink and well I dont even know why this movie was made it should have been a anime movie instead pee whewww!!!!!!
But the hell with it! It looks like crap! Its got very few SF characters and the ones they do have are horrible! They didn't even try! AND FANS NOTICED.
YOU CAN'T MAKE CRAP AND EXPECT PEOPLE TO BUY INTO IT!
PS - Raul Julia was THE ONLY M.BISON!
I never even saw an ad on the internet for this movie....just for the game.
Total garbage.
Not to mention that chick is not chun-li to me....not sure which actress they could have used...but they need to be more asian, and be willing to undergo a 6 month upper leg strengthening routine...
wow, I didn't even realize it was out yet....I think they can chalk up some of that to poor advertising. Still, I probably will go see it sometime just for kicks and of course for Kristen :)
what u should try get and watch is a film called the quest i watched it other night and for me it was street fight should be unlike the street fight film.
i never saw even a sf4 internet ad! ok, maybe i should disable my adblock plus. but like, i follow game news and stuff, i guess the movie would be sorta advertised among other game stuff. like, i heard of silent hill and other crappy movies...
WOW Im surprised that this movie got that much money -LOOOOL- I didnt even bother to go see this crap - and I'm a SF fan - I knew it the minute I saw the first preview of the movie.
I knew this movie was going to be terrible ever since i saw it on fandango....just the list of upcoming movies, I didnt even check it out yet lol
behold the future for the New DBZ movie LOL
Sure I bet the DBZ movie MAY and I do say MAY get about 8 or 10 mil But that's Just the Ppl going to watch it to See How bad it really Is =P
As for this Movie LOL what words can i say.......... I mean What Dumb ass makes a Street Fighter movie and Not have Ryu or Ken in it LOL Thats like having a DBZ movie with the Story line changed and bad Actors....Opps =P
I guess we can just Hope the CG in the DBZ movie is better then it was in this Movie, I mean really did you She Her Ball LOL wow, I seen Fan Made stuff look better then that.
i said "She her" LOL
Well if you can't lol at your Self then you may as well go shoot your self +P
I thought this SF movie may actually do alright. I have ZERO hope for the Dragonball Evolution movie though. Can a movie do less than a million opening weekend? We may just find out.
The street fighter story is crappy to begin with. It's just an excuse to fight in the game.
Add crappy director and low budget, WOW the movie sucks.
I also called it. I mean honestly the people they've chose for the characters were just pitiful. I mean TABOO as VEGA? Chris Klein as Charlie? Kristen Kruek as Chun Li? Lui Kang(sorry forgot his real name) as Gen? They were jokes.
The only actor they got right to play the role was Michael Clarke Duncan as Balrog.
I also expect DB:E to fail miserably. Tip to movie producers, directors...etc: ANIME SHOULD STAY AS ANIME NOT LIVE ACTION FILMS. >_>
Michael Clarke Duncan was a great balrog. Neil McDonough was a good Bison, but he looked nothing like him, and was very shallow.
What Hollywood fails to realize is that fighting games can't be made into movies with horrible results.... look at Mortal Kombat. God. They spend all this money training the actors, that they've got none left for production value and proper scripting.
Let's not get started on Cowboy Bebop movie with Keanu as Spike.... o_o
My theory why the SF movie did so poorly is because Watchmen comes out this weekend. Everyone's just saving their money to see it instead. :)
