Sony: Wii Is "More of a Novelty" |

There's no doubt about it, the Wii is doing incredibly well in terms of sales across the whole world in general. With the Wii being dubbed as the UK's fastest selling console ever, competitions Microsoft and Sony most probably know about it.
Of course, it isn't fair to say that Wii is the only next-generation success story. The PS3 and Xbox 360 both also did well during their launch dates. In reaction to Wii's success, Nintendo simply said, "Demand, as you can see from the reaction of consumers, has been greater than even we had hoped for."
And what did Sony have to say? "We feel very confident that the PlayStation fan is going to wait until they can get a PlayStation 3...If they do pick up a Wii, it's as more of a novelty."
Some gamers are claiming that Wii is more in demand because there are eBay auctions where Wii consoles sell for US$ 450+, making more of a profit in percentage terms than PS3 consoles. However, this is not necessarily true. PS3 consoles are still going for a good US$ 100 to US$ 200 above the retail price.
Nintendo's Gamecube may not have fared well in the last console wars, finishing third to the Xbox and PS2 but Ninty is still proving to be a big competition against the might of Sony and Microsoft. But we gotta give merit where it is due: the PS3 and the Xbox 360 are outstanding pieces of machinery, with bagfuls of processing and graphical power. So in the end, it wouldn't matter if a console is a mere novelty or is the biggest-selling console - what would matter is that the fans made a choose and they stuck by it. If you do believe in the console that you're supporting, then what others say wouldn't matter at all.

Meh Ps3 is just an overexpensive console with not good games at all.Ps3 only have a slightly advantage in graphics over the the x360,but 600$ for only a slightly difference between the x360?..Good luck with that.
Anyway Nintendo BS may sold alot but the truth is that the PSP owns it good,Nintendo should pull out some good games if they want me to buy a nintendo Bs.

I love the 360, PSP, DS, GBA SP, Xbox, PS2, GCN. Why? Because they all have their share of fun games. Period.
None of the main consoles (not talking about an Atari Flashback 2 here!) generally suck. They are all good. End of story.

I had a PSP and I sold it after 6 months. Homebrew is nice but I can only play emulators for so long. After that....I'd rather play a new game with two screens and touch-screen interaction. I've never really played games like that before...so yeah...that's what I'd want to play.

It's actually a 1.5, and I use it as a mobile emulator, which comes in handy :)

Even when they suck and were taking the games industry the wrong way (i.e. super expensive Blu-ray and a CPU that does nothing for games relative to the costs and debugging nightmare). With blu-ray sales not really increasing all that much despite the PS3 being the trojan horse for that, it's starting to bite them in the ass.
Now that they're losing money hand over fist with the PS2 the only thing keeping their games division afloat, it's just a matter of time. Gamers seem to have soured over the playstation brand now and that's a GREAT thing.
PS3=expensive everything, from long and expensive games development, to an expensive console, expensive everything really other than the "free" online experience.

For instance, play Avatar for a bit and you'll find that the Wiimote brings NOTHING to the party. A regular controller would have been better.
But play Wii Sports and you'll have no doubt that it's the right controller for that.
So yeah, Sony's right that the Wiimote is a novelty controller, and since the Wii is based on it and doesn't HAVE a regular controller, the whole system is a 'novelty'. Fortuntely, Nintendo's novelties have staying power and are fun LONG after the console itself has been replaced several times.
The PS3, however, is simply Yet Another Console. There is nothing special about it. If the Bluray video player works well, it might make a good entertainment system, but that's not what Gamers buy it for, and it's a pretty good bet that a dedicated BR player will play BR better than a PS3. (Check out DVDs on a PS2, if you want to know why.)
The XBox 360 does the same job as the PS3 for gamers, and costs less. Once there are exclusive titles on the PS3 that I care about, I'll start to think about buying one. But they're going to have to be worth $600... And that's either a REALLY good game, or a lot of them. I don't see it happening.

I have like the playstation(1 and 2), but i dont get what they are doing with the PS3. Just updating the graphics doesnt make anything NEXT-Gen. That 6 axis controller feature is some bullsh**! They just threw that in the last few weeks to counter Nintendo's big innovation. That is one thing that Sony did to piss me off!
Ive been a huge video game fan since I owned my NES back in 88 or 89. I drifted off from Nintendo back when i got my playstation 1 in 99. But after coming back to my N64, and purchasing a gamecube in 05, playing the nintendo games on it, especially resident evil 4, i have realized that Nintendo makes great products for GAMERS! They dont try to appease us with DVD playback or some high tech crap that hikes the cost up!
I dont have a Wii, havent played it either. I've seen it as a demo at our mall, and it looks promising. It looks fun, although i have to admit, i dont know how some games are going to work with the controller. New ways of developing games are the key to making the controller work. I hope these game developers will give Nintendo the time and dedication to do that. I think they know where the money is(thanks to all the graphic fanboys)though, and keep making the same old crap, just better graphics. Take Madded 07 for ps3. I seen a demo of it at circuit city last week and the graphics were better....i guess. It looked like the same old crap. Better looking, but the players still moved a bit unnatural. It looked somewhat pretty, but still gave me the feeling of lack of real control and fun.
I want to have some fun with my video games, not games that are pretty to look at! I see people review the ps3 games and xbox360 games and all they talk about is how good the graphics look. But they struggle to say anything else about it, including it being fun or not. I can say playing multiplayer and online can be loads of fun. But what about the single player games? This graphics crap is only going to last a bit longer before everyone says the same thing..where is the fun??
