There was a time when Sonic rivaled even the great Mario himself, but those days are gone and now the blazin' blue hedgehog is on a quest to restore his old glory. Will Sonic Unleashed (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii) be his ticket back to the big time? Check out the gameplay trailer below and decide for yourself.

Sonic Unleashed looks to deliver the same brand of high-octane platforming fun that all its predecessors had. In this video, the visuals aren't looking too shabby but we'd be pushing it if we say we haven't seen better.

In any case, this one should appeal to the young and the young at heart. Sonic still has plenty of charm about him to draw crowds, so you might want to check this one out when it launches.

Looks like it'd be fun on the Wii, but otherwise I see appeal to it

» Ugh Sonic

Sega didn't just kill the Sonic franchise with a stream of crappy games, they killed it, bent it over and ****ed it in the ***. Necrophilia, folks. It ain't pretty. You couldn't get me to play a Sonic game now if you paid me.

» hehe...

It's a racing game. Looks like it's worth a try. I'll wait for reviews though.

» Sonic and the secret ring 2

This is obviously the same gametype than Sonic and the secret ring on the Wii.

Graphics looks nice.

hopefully they dont destroy the game on the wii trying to impemet shoddy motion controls. This is one of those games I would rather turn the remote sideways and play it like a regular console with NO motion controls for the jump button.

It could be good, but I think it seems like a tricked out camera version of the last 2 sonic games on the PSP.

» This is a shame.

This game, like all others after Sonic Adventure 2, is a disgrace to the classic Sonic trademark. Most people, including Me, want a new Sonic Adventure. That would sell alot more than this will

» wtf

this game is going to be too focused on speed and not enough on gameplay :/

the original games didn't do this.

This game ix going to suck and we all know it.

by your_fire - 2008-06-29 09:03
» nice

i think its going to be a nice game..but sonic looks like a stuffed doll ..he's not sharp

by ThrashWolf - 2008-06-29 09:07
» um...

The original games WERE all focused about speed, that was one of the games selling points; the megadrive was more powerful than the SNES, so sonic games were faster than Mario's games

by emcp - 2008-06-29 09:37
» its the same

crap that all 3d sonics have been

the gameplay of the original series do not go with todays technology

the gameplay needs changed, more of a fighter

because in these types of games, you really dont need to press a single button, the computer does it all for ya

and i hate that

the original sonics still rule unlike the mario game

by na2rul - 2008-06-29 15:32
» its all gone wrong

they still continue to persist doing the same old sh**.

if they want/are bothered to ACTUALLY revitalise Sonic as a franchise, they need to go do what made sonic good in the 1st place. those friggin grinding rails and speed runs does not make the game as awespme as the classics.

Sonic & Knuckles + 3 had brilliant platforming gameplay. They sound effects of just using the spring and killing a bad guy is a +. Giant ring special stage. THE MUSIC! joy of spinning down a hill giving u a sense of speed without overdoing it. Awesome level design. its robotnik ffs. Sonic, knuckles, and tails only, thats enough!!!! Mario had stuck to their faithful characters for yrs. Sonic looks like a total mess compared to the short spiked sonic(maybe its to do with age)

I still love sonic 1. i stilll play 1,2,3 and S n knuckles ROMS.

Send Sonic back to the past as a story or something and make him look short like he did back in the Genesis days. Quit the childish approach, then you might get a bigger audience

» happy face for you

i agree 100% with everything you said

by Just_a_guy - 2008-06-29 16:25
» oh?

then explain marble garden zone, for example, Chemical plant zone, winged fortres, scrap brain zone ect.

Those levels were all abou controlling the speed, and it was a treat to have that burst of speed. I have also found that the game was a careful ballance between wpeed and controll, and this game is all about speed, so......

by death - 2008-06-29 18:37
» exactly

i want something similar to ratchet and clank (BUT NO WEAPONS)

by Just_a_guy - 2008-06-29 19:13
» lol

didn't the orignal game use the three avalible butons to do the same thing?

by Just_a_guy - 2008-06-29 19:16
» omg

SONIC IS NOT A REFLEX FEST

AND THAT IS WHAT THIS GAME IS TURNING OUT TO BE.

by Stinky_1 - 2008-06-30 03:51
» speed

the first sonic was all about speed. The comercials for it looked a lot like this one, in that it showcases how much speed is built into the game. I distinctly remember that their marketing strategy was that the Genesis could the speed, and the Snes could not.

Further versions of the game started to add more game play. But the first one required you only to hit the jump button when you needed, and keep on moving as fast as possible.

» Weresonic?

I almost forgot, does anyone know what they are doing with the Werewolf version of Sonic in this game?
