Smash Bros. Brawl to be easier? |
Ó
Masahiro Sakurai has updated the Japanese website with some replies about Super Smash Bros. Brawl again. Yet again, it's bad news. "This time, we'd like to stress easiness over the small details of combat, so overall it might become somewhat easier." Easiness? This is not good. Super Smash Bros. Melee was very easy to get into for novice players. It was completely a pick up and play experience. Novice players could play for years without knowing anything beyond how to attack and recover while still having fun. It was only when you got into the more advanced aspects that it got complicated. That's how it should be. Fun and easy for those who don't want to play competitively while remaining fun and intricate for those who want to play on a higher level. Making it easier will only water down the metagame while keeping the novice players playing the same.He also had another update about characters. He says that just because a character is popular in Japan doesn't mean he will be using it. He says he realizes that Super Smash Bros. is a worldwide success and wants to cater to that. Still, he notes that Fire Emblem proved that there is a market for Japan-exclusive characters.

Do we really know what he means by easier? Characters are easier to control? The game is easier to get into? The overall game is easier? Also remember this is a Japanese person talking here, easy doesn't mean the exact same thing there as it does in English.

Also, I'm hoping you're right and that it's just because of the translations. I wish Nintendo would step it up a bit and have consistent updates on the English site so we don't have to use fan translations =( They have better access to Sakurai to confirm what's going on.

In this case, it's definately the latter. The newsie states that the game should be "fun and easy for those who don't want to play competitively while remaining fun and intricate for those who want to play on a higher level. Making it easier will only water down the metagame while keeping the novice players playing the same."
Yeah, that's nice. Now tell me where in the "bad news" that states that "somewhat easier" equivicates to NOT being fun and easy for some and intricate for others. For all we know it could just mean additional air control, and making brass assumptions that "easier" means axing layered complexity or what-have-you.
Frankly, I'd rather see quality of content and post. A quality summary is far, far more important than a half-assed "EVERYONE PANIC" piece.
