Slackers responds with official statement about Wii scalping |

We recently reported on Ars Technica writer Ben Kuchera's expose on Slackers' alleged scalping activity on eBay. In response to this, Kurt Jellinek, president of the company, released an official statement regarding this issue.In his letter, Jellinek said that Kuchera made "a number of sweeping and factually incorrect statements about SlackersÂ’ practice of selling Nintendo Wii Game systems on eBay." He added that "other sites are picking up this story and spreading the misleading piece."
For people to understand the whole situation, Jellinik added factual data regarding their stock of Wii consoles and the amount of money they are earning. Slackers was to acquire 44 units of the Wii Console. 35 units were sold at the suggested price of US$ 249.99. Some were donated to a silent auction and were given away as prizes on a radio show.
Still, Jellinek does admit "scalping" 5 units of the Wii console on eBay at US$ 399.99. They only did it to improve their profile on the internet. But as he explained further, the price was that high because of various factors such as unit price, shipping, and the cuts of eBay and PayPal. With this, Jellinek says that Slackers does not make money selling Wii consoles.
