A few months ago, Insomniac Games' Marketing Director Ryan Schneider had commented that they (Insomniac) were flattered by the amount games out there that were apparently influenced by their Ratchet and Clank franchise.Schneider went on to mention Shigeru Miyamoto's Super Mario Galaxy for the Nintendo Wii - the game's spherical worlds also being present in Insomniac's Going Commando and Up Your Arsenal. So, was Miyamoto really taking a cue from Insomniac?
According to the Official Nintendo Magazine UK's upcoming issue, this is not the case. Quoting Miyamoto's statements from his interview with the magazine when quizzed about Insomniac.
In terms of the spherical worlds and anti-gravity, we had the original idea as soon as we finished the development of Mario 64 and had been experimenting with it for many years, even on the N64. It's not an idea we got from anywhere else. I'm sorry but I have to admit that I've never seen the game in question [Ratchet and Clank]. Is it a PC game?
Great minds - whether indirectly or not - think alike indeed.

Going by what you said whether I agree with you or not, what is wrong with the current state of Mario games like the 64 version and Galaxy? Do you really expect to have a Mario game to have some sort of "epic story" with elaborate twists, long text based conversations at every turn, and much more in that vein. I think you're expecting WAY to much if you do.
