Shaun White Snowboarding announced for PS3, 360, Wii, and PC |
Ó
The game looks ambitious enough to give the Tony Hawk franchise a run for its money. Shaun White Snowboarding features a snow-capped world of massive proportions, running on the same engine that powered Assassin's Creed.
Gameplay is physics-driven: your performance is dictated by everything from friction to inertia, the type of board you choose, and how heavily packed the snow is. The game also has online multiplayer, allowing 16-32 players at a time, depending on the platform.
The Wii is the exception on the multiplayer rule. This version only supports up to four players. That's ok though, since the Wii version will have support for the Wii Balance Board, something all the other platforms don't get to have.
Shaun White Snowboarding will be released sometime this year. Here's a first look at the game, with an interview with Louis Lamarche, the game's producer:

Looks pretty slick, but it obviously still needs some tweaking, judging by the gameplay footage. Its early in development of course though. :)
The main thing I am really looking for in this game is trick physics: for example- in all previous snowboarding/skiing games, the player could straight-air for the first half of a jump, then whilst in mid-air, simply decide to do a backflip, then a front flip, then a rotation, then land. That sort of thing is LAME! All mid-air rotations should have to be started on the snow- if you want to do a backflip, you have to hit the jump right, perhaps while pulling back on the thumbstick at the lip. And NO LOSS OF MOMENTUM, just like in real life. If you start a backflip and still have a ton of air left when you come around, your body still keeps turning and doesnt simply stop rotating.
Basically what I think would be awesome is no canned-animations for tricks. They would feel so much more rewarding and real that way, instead of a button-combo for some ridiculous multi-flip.
It looks cool, but the game seems a little rough atm. Also, I hope they add in more exciting backgrounds, like in SSX.
was the sickest snowboarding game ever. Hopefully this will be just as tight.
