Sega: Wii lets game designers get more creative than in PS3 and Xbox 360

Mario and Sonic - Image 1Referring to Nintendo Wii's low development costs, Sega's North American president Simon Jeffrey said that third-party games for the Wii will be more creative and unique, compared to its Sony and Microsoft rivals.

On the other hand, he explains that third-party titles for both PS3 and the Xbox 360 tend to be more standardized due to 'rationalized' development costs, hindering third-party developers from exploring the console's limits or even experiment with new kinds of gaming.

Jeffrey made an example out of Electronic Arts: "Just look at what EA is already doing on the Wii - EA doesnÂ’t usually do that kind of game." Maybe he's also alluding to Madden NFL 08 Wii's Telestrator, perhaps?

Jeffrey also said that he's seeing the same game standardization in PSN and XBLA. "The industry will be looking to Sony and Microsoft to bring as much new IP as possible."

With Sega being the winner of the "Best Wii Game title" in the Leipzig Game Convention for Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games, one could say that it certainly knows what it's talking about, and it never hurts to heed what someone has has to say about one's work.

» Of course

So in fact, since dev. costs for other consoles are high, they will used the liscenced tools (Unreal Engine...) a lot more to profit from their investments. Instead for the Wii, they are able to spend a little more (but way less than for the other consoles) to try out new things.

Now if you get all the major devloppers using the same tools again and again, ou'll be rushed by similar games all the way.

» Yeah..so?!?

PS3 and 360 owners collectively can be heard saying..Who cares?!?

» Err

And wii owners are saying - Who cares?

As long as we get good games, doesnt matter which platform.

Unless your a rabid fan boy who is still at school and only got a Ps3/X360 for Chrimbo and needs to shout sbout your superiority.

Consoles are great for mutliplay, Wii is a great tool for multiplay fun.

If you want a killer Rig then buy a PC and shout about how much more power you really have.

X360?

Ps3?

Compared to my Dual Core DX10 XP/Vista behemoth?

Silly kids, go home and play Madden.

Bioshock on my PC destroys X360.

Oblivion on my PC destroys PS3 and X360.

But wait, do I actually care?

*****!

I am becoming a PC fanboy!!

Better kill me before I say something REALLY STUPID.

So basically they are saying, since the Wii is crap and cheap, we can try different ideas and it wont be a loss at all cause no one buys Wii games. Now if we tried something new on the PS3 and it didn't sell, we'd be out of a lot of money because we actually tried to make a decent game. Love it, poor Wii owners.

» To all fanboys...

I'm not a fanboy, and will never be.

But i just want to give my opinion about the quality of the consoles on the marked. without considering the number of sold consoles, this my personal opinion.

i have owned a PS1, PS2, Xbox and now have a Wii.

Last generation of consoles, product quality.

1st. Xbox

2nd. PS2

3rd. Gamecube

This Generation.

1st. PS3

2nd. Wii

3rd. X360
