Screenshot of ScummVM homebrew emulator for Wii - Image 1If you have a thing for old-school point-and-click adventure games, then you should be more than familiar with the ScummVM emulator. Ported on several platforms, the latest iteration finds itself on the Wii console thanks to the efforts of developer dhewg.

Revision 32506 of the emulator steps itself up with a couple of new tweaks in terms of title compatibility and more. In any case, it's still the same emulator that veteran and novice players alike have come to enjoy.

Here are the details of the new changes to ScummVM Wii since our previous coverage of the emulator:

rev 32506
  • restructured the runtime paths
    • files from the selected game are now correctly loaded (check the READMII)
  • increased the virtual screen size for the IR pointer
    • its now easier to exit the Sam & Max inventory
    • fixes the Goblins 3 scroll issue
  • added the keys "y" and "n" to the d-pad (for Simon the Sorcerer)
rev 32475
  • improved sd read performance (thanks, svpe)
  • fixed crash on saving a game
rev 32231 (hbc apps package)
  • wiimote support
  • compiled with updated dkppc/libogc/libfat
    • fixes all known crashes (afaict)
    • Monkey Island 3 is playable now

Does anybody have any thorough instructions about how to get this running?

I changed the file to boot.elf, didn't work.

I changed the file to boot.dol, didn't work.

Both times I got "This is not a valid Wii file".

I own the Sam & Max Hit the Road CD.
