Science Doing Some Science On Wii Fit - Image 1One of the more interesting appeals of Wii Fit is that it'll keep you, well, fit. Now is this just a gimmick, or has Miyamoto stumbled upon the secret to family fitness? Science wants to know.

Researcher Scott Owens from the University of Mississippi are starting tests to determine the effectiveness of the game's regimen. Says Owen:

Obesity has become an epidemic in the United States, and one of the reasons is the adults and children are getting less physical activity.

There has been an upswing in sales of whole body movement video games over the past few years. This potentially could help family fitness, so we are looking at the research aspect to see if family fitness improves after purchasing one of these whole body movement game consoles.

The tests will follow the progress of eight families, who will be under the Wii Fit regimen for three months, and then without it for another three. Part of the regimen includes duking it out for who goes first. Well, no, but it'd be more interesting that way.

» Finally

scientific evidence will come out that Wii fit is a horrible alternative to real exercise.

why dont people just start running and eat right then they wont have to play this game

» Well

I guess people need more than their endangering their health to motivate them.. Usually I would so it's a shame that people bring down others who try to have fun while working out, but this time I actually think some people will try to use this as an alternative or something.. I mean, if you can buy a Wii, you can probably buy a cheap bike or treadmill, and watch TV while doing it. If I had my own place I would love to do that! But it's just easier to sit down >_>

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

No one ever said (not even Nintendo) that the Wii Fit will MAKE you fit. That's just absurd.

The Wii Fit is a TOOL. For the most part it creates awareness and it opens one mind to alternative forms of exercise. Yoga being one of them.

But, some people are just jackasses and choose uniformity. It's either THEIR WAY or no way at all.

um.. it measure your weight, is called wiifit, and gives you a "schedule" for working out... it's supposed to help you lose weight, not "free your mind" you're freaking absurd, what are you smoking?

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

"and gives you a "schedule" for working out"

"it's supposed to help you lose weight"

You just proved my point. Thank you. It's a TOOL. It's supposed to HELP. Not actually DO. Certain jackasses like Mr. Common Douche Bag try to imply that the Wii Fit should ALL BY ITSELF turn a 500 pound guy into a lean 160 pounds.

Again, the Wii Fit will NOT MAKE YOU FIT. It's a tool designed to help you.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but are you viewing this page from a wheel chair, sucking on a straw whilst several white coated people try and wash your anal regions?

Every fitness gadget is a TOOL. You can't say that a treadmill is supposed to do the exercise for you can you?

WiiFit is a tool, but so is every other fitness gadget. Point proven. go back to your dirty American retard home.

*****

» WTF!?!?!?!?!

Again, you proved my point. Thanks.

Wii Fit is just a tool. A lot of people view other people doing exercise ON the Wii Fit and believe the Wii Fit in itself is suppose to MAKE YOU lose weight.

Your gripe is not with me. Your gripe is with all the idiots like Mr. Common Douche Bag.

"whilst several white coated people try and wash your anal regions?"

Do you expect people to take you seriously?

» wow..............

Wii Fit is a game. If you play it the intended way, you must move your arms. That is not necessarily enough to be considered "working out". These "scientists" will probably get mixed results or no significant changes in fitness, unless it's spurred on by the psychological boost you'd receive just thinking that your getting fit. All in all this might be considered as regular exercise but it wont grow huge muscles unless you strap weights to your wii remote. Anyway, Wiifit is software, not really a tool. The wii mote is a tool jacka$$. I do get what your saying, but have you ever heard of sharing your opinion rather than shoving it down others' throats? And adz1990, you act as if you are not American, do not lump us all (at least me) with this loser. Then you'd be as assinine as that guy. -late
