Scarface dev: Wii has a lot of "horsepower under the hood"

One criticism of the Wii which comes from fans of other next generation consoles is that it is technologically inferior to both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3. If you look at the insides of the 3 next-gen consoles then this is technically true. The PS3 and X360 have more processing power both in CPU terms and in graphical power, but of course the Wii makes up for this with innovation, the Wii remote ("Wiimote") and a vast range of games you wouldn't find on any other console.

Today Geoff Thomas, producer at Radical Entertainment in charge of developing Scarface for the Wii, has defended Nintendo's console, saying "The Wii has a lot of horsepower under the hood and we're making full use of it." Whilst some of the Wii game graphics have been disappointing, it does take developers a little while to get to grips with the full power of new consoles, and as Thomas went on to say:

We've overhauled our graphics engine to get the most out of the console by updating all of the shaders responsible for rendering the environment, vehicle, and characters. In many ways Scarface looks sharper on the Wii than it does on the PS2 and Xbox.

If all goes to plan, Scarface will be one of the best-looking Wii games to date, challenging games such as Red Steel. We'll be looking out for this game when it is released this summer, but just remember people: it's not the size of the package that counts, it's how you use it.

"poor inferior wii"

at least nintendo had the balls to try something new and different with the next gen. Just wait for such games like Smash Bros and Galaxy, the watch those wii's fly off the selfs even faster than a speeding bullet put into the back end of a bat out of hell. Yes i was referring of course to the poor sales of both the PS3/Xbox360 for which the wii is slaughtering at the moment even without hi-def and dvd playback, it’s the only reason you sony/Microsoft fanboys class it as an impulse buy, just so you can try to explain the extremely good sales.

It’s Nintendo people, they brought video games into our homes and they have always taken the steps and risks to make gaming better, the other companies just copy. Hell even Microsoft said that they are going to copy Nintendos gaming strategy now in a recent interview.

Laz is right and every one knows it. happycamper posted what he did because either:he only plays games that are visually superior. Or only plays the games that everyone else and their mother plays. then he goes on to attempt to make himself seem superior by ignorantly stating that the wii is "inferior". when we all know that comparing the wii to the xbox360, ps3 visually is a joke. Any knoweldgeable and reasonable person would know this, that knows the industry of coarse. happycamper is categorized as a fanboy, indenial that the wii is selling much better than the system he invested in. and that my friends is how you breakdown a typical fanboy.

Y is everyone saying wii is worse, so far pound for pound its going through the roof and beating all the other consoles anyway, any1 who says the other consoles are better is just to poor to buy both.
