Samus' Smash and Prime Mysteries Clarified

Zero Suit Samus

In Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Zero Suit Samus is seen with what people have been calling a sword, whip, and even lightsabre! Well, through an interview with Retro Studios, it's now apparent that Samus is actually using a variation of the grappling beam! What's confusing is that when you're in control of Zero Suit Samus in Metroid: Zero Mission she isn't able to use the grappling beam... You know what's a good way of fixing that contradiction, Nintendo? Metroid Dread. Pretty please?

On the Metroid Prime 3: Corruption front, they cleared up a lot of points. The game is still set as a first-person adventure, not a first-person shooter. They say they'll "talk to [Reggie]" about him calling it an FPS during the E3 Nintendo Press Conference. However, the most interesting thing I found was their response to a question about the storyline of the series.

Q: In Prime 3, you’re keeping it a trilogy right? So after this its going to end the ‘Prime’ series of Metroid?
A:As for the Metroid Prime series…as for the trilogy of the Prime series created by Retro Studios this is the last game. However, as we refer to the 3D Metroid game series as the ‘Prime Series’, an example is NST’s Metroid Prime Hunters which is a part of the ‘Prime’ series, so it will be seen if it continues in the future as the ‘Prime Series’ or not, but we’d want to continue it.

This was a very vague answer. Obviously, the trilogy of Phazon will end with Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. However, I don't recall Metroid Prime Hunters having anything to do with Phazon at all (nor Metroid Prime for that matter...). It looks like Retro has left the possibility of continuing the franchise open - whether it be by them or another developer. For the full interview, click "Read."

Metroid Prime 1 did have to do with Phazon. You got the Phazon suit (black and red) near the end of the game after you beat the giant Elite Pirate. The boss of the game is "Metroid Prime" and is a Metroid mutated by Phazon. The only way to beat it is when you stand in a pool of Phazon generated by MP and shoot him with the Phazon beam. So yea, Metroid Prime did have something to do with Phazon.

Whats the purpose of playing metroid if she has no armor or arm cannon. That just makes here a regualr woman holding a sword.

Seems like it is the end of the series.

I know Metroid Prime had Phazon. Metroid Prime Hunters for the DS didn't have much to do with it though...

Metroid was so much better in 2d on SNES and now the GBA.....

Just make a big a$$ 2D version for Wii with a much longer story.

Now THAT would kick some major ANUS!!!!!!

# No phazon in Prime?Guest 2006-06-07 17:20
Actually, in Metroid Prime 1, it had everything to do with Phazon. The reason why the Chozo died out and the planet was dying was because of the Phazon that came from the meteor. Samus is awesome.......
