Sakamoto: Nintendo's next home console will "surprise" you

Looks like Sony could be half-right when it said either Microsoft or Nintendo will be spearheading the next generation of consoles. Yoshio Sakamoto, Metroid co-creator, told Spanish website 3DJuegos that Nintendo will be coming out with a "surprise" when it unveils its new home console.

Reading between the lines, it means that Nintendo is already cooking up something for next-gen. Said Sakamoto (as translated by Google):

At Nintendo we always have the obligation to surprise users with a new console. We have never done what others. We prefer to create something new that catches attention, and I think this will continue at this time. Surely the new Nintendo machine will leave you all with my mouth open."

I guess he meant with "our" mouths open. Anyhow, he did not of course divulge any specific details as to what kind of surprises they may have in store for us, but it does leave us guessing.

Really? I have not used the wii in two years, it was such a waste of money. I wish I could sell it, but it is my brothers, and he never plays it either. It sucks so much. It failed miserbly in the "next gen" department. Missing the graphics, online and physics capabilities of the Xbox and PS3. Later they added online though.

Its a shame so many people like you exist, who simply want games for the 'Wow factor' graphics and such. Which results in shitty games that look pretty.

Grow up, games arent about looking omg supar. They are about being good games. Mario and Zelda are timeless classics for a reason. They arent always cutting edge, but they are almost always good. (I say almost always. There have been exceptions.)

You're an idiot. there are almost zero games on the market for PS3 and Xbox that can replicate the control experience someone can have on a wii. PS3 and Xbox do offer unique experiences because of their powerful graphics capabilities, but to judge a console based purely on graphics power is just retarded.

Nintendo really loves to risk stuff. The consumer will love it or hate it. Either way, they can just come up with another one in no time. Also, if this is 3D, I think I'm gonna pass especially if it requires 3DTV or HDTV. lol. 3D is overrated IMHO.

I'm guessing this new console is a successor of Virtual Boy. xDDD hehehe.

At nintendo we have always had the goal of amazing our players with a new console. We have never done something thats already been done before. We prefer to create something that gets peoples attention and I believe that this will be no exception. Nintendos new console will once again leave everyone with their mouths wide open.

I'll be surprised when they revert back to 8 or 16 bit graphics. Ninty taking risks with their new consoles is no surprise.

they arnt exactly innovative

they tend to bundle up old ideas (theres very few new ones), dont exactly optimise it

and stick the entire weight of their marketing company behind them

Nintendos marketing is what should be awarded theyreo n longer a games company to me

You don't always have to be innovative to do what a business is meant to do: make a profit. And boy, did they make a profit. The problem is what you do when you've saturated the market. And they solved that problem, too: new console!

Sony is just going by how Nintendo operates in the past where every 5 years Nintendo introduces a new hardware. So they are not half right. Also Nintendo has said time after time that when they release a system they start on the next one but it doesn't mean its going to come out. Also look how long the Wii has been out and Nintendo has said many times that their next system will not come out until they feel that if the Wii can not provide them the with tools to make newer games they want then they will release their next system. So the Wii can stick around for another 3 years before Nintendo releases their next system.

hmm here what i expect.
a console that do hd with stereoscopic 3d
(a bit like ps3 to follow the 3ds ablity )and ability to run wii games.using more acurate wiimote
and have the same network as the 3ds.
(xbox live type for minigames playing,movie renting in 3d...)
