Yes, yes, I know. We don't have a Dreamcast blog. Nonetheless, this bit of news is too exciting to pass up. Besides, being the fanboys you are, I am SURE each of you had played on Dreamcast long before the PS3 or the Xbox 360 or the Wii even crossed your collective consciousness. There's some room for Dreamcast in everyone, I believe.

That is why it's just totally exciting to find out that apparently, not all publishers have let go of the Dreamcast dream, choosing to still make games for it despite the console having been declared clinically dead years ago. Ladies and gentlemen, introducing Redspotgames' 10th year Dreamcast anniversary offering: Rush Rush Rally Racing.

This is no hoax, folks! You can get the game on Amazon and eBay starting this October, for US$ 22. Heck, you can even pre-order this now over at the publisher's website (via the link below)! They've even listed the features, the best among which, I'd have to say, would be this: NO REALISTIC BACKGROUNDS, NO SPONSORED CARS. ONLY FUN, RETRO GAMEPLAY.
  • Single-player grand prix mode with four difficulty levels
  • Three multiplayer modes to enjoy with up to four players
  • Five race cars to choose from
  • 10 Grand Prix race tracks
  • 9 additional multiplayer race tracks
  • Awesome soundtrack by Black Device
  • Autosave to VMU (any port, file uses just 2 blocks)
  • Region-free
  • Rumble pack support
  • Compatible with original Dreamcast pads, arcade stick, and third-party controllers
  • Supports PAL (50/60 Hz), NTSC, and VGA displays
  • Configurable controls and many other options
  • Animated cut scenes
  • Plus even more unlockable content!
  • New: Online high score!

If only for the nostalgia of it, this accompanying gameplay video should deserve a look:

» haha

This is pretty awesome. Looks like someone found out how to program for DC, and make a Super Offroad rip-off...but a nice one.

I am not sure about charging money for it though.

I am sure it is not licensed by Sega (unless there is some legal thing where you don't have to anymore) and is just exploiting how easily unauthorized code could be run on DC....which was it's demise.....

» Ohhh good time flashbacks.

I remember the first time I played my Dreamcast. Great memories. I wish Sega would bring back a kickass console. When the Dreamcast died, so did a part of me.

I've still got a Dreamcast but I've never liked it. Apart from SFIII (which is a ***** to play on those godawful DC joypads) and occasionally Bangai-O I never found much else I wanted to play on it despite owning over 20 games for it (I inherited the system from a friend who pretty much just gave it away and I might do the same)

» Today is the 10th anniversary...

Of the DC launching in the US!

Happy f-ing birthday!

» actually

you can't blame it all on being easily exploitable...

not having the support of the biggest third party publisher (EA) was another huge nail in the coffin... i won't forgive EA for this until they bring back road rash.

» Ok ok

after I finish this comment I'm heading straight to the pre-sale site. this is amazing!!! I still to this day, like DC over PS2. I guess I'm a tad bitter towards PS2 since it took over and there were far superior consoles at the time IE: GCN, and Xbox. The dreamcast was so good, I bought 2!!! Shenmue and Sonic Adventure are the must haves on my list for DC. Maybe this will join those classic games.

» to add to this

will there ever be a third party broadband adapter for this? I REALLY wish someone'd mass produce them so there's no more vultures on eBay.

» will order this ^_^

gonna pick this up

» Wow

I've never even seen a Dreamcast, and I'm not kidding. Who's gunna buy it in bulk? No one will know it exists, and it doesn't even sound very good. 5 cars? ***** me, NFS1 back in 1993 had more than 5 cars. Much more. So basically their strategy is to release a ***** game for a system no one owns anyway...

by Navani - 2009-09-09 13:22
» HOW old are you?

I'm 19, and I've seen many many many Dreamcasts in my life, and no, not over the same person's house. I remember playing racing games on it and Marvel vs Capcom. Their strategy is to release an ENTERTAINING game for a system that people own. Do you own it? No? Then you're not the demographic, so stfu.

No, I don't own a Dreamcast, but if they start making games for it I'll pick one up! I really really really liked the system whenever I played it.

by rollypoly - 2009-09-09 13:50
» also, you are correct...

from the pre-order site:

This is a CD-ROM based product and might not be compatible with some NTSC-J Dreamcast%u2122 consoles built after October 2000. Please check the manufacture date on the back of your console before. This software is not officially licensed, designed, manufactured, distributed or endorsed by Sega.

by PSPMAN90 - 2009-09-09 14:31
» ummm.... I like Sonic and Spawn for DC

I still think the DC its a great console, but too bad Sega didn't push a little more... WHat the heck! We don't need no more COnsoles! Sega did the right thing to Publish his own games, instead of their own consoles, which would be a major breakdown... Still they were better than SNES and near to the PS1.

GREAT RETRO KING!

Carry ON!

» Awesome

Heh, that's pretty awesome... The Dreamcast has always been one of my favorite consoles, even though I only have 3-4 games for it... It was way ahead of its time, much better than its contemporaries, and probably better even than the PS2 in the succeeding generation.

I'll probably pick up this game, just to encourage them to keep making games for the system. It'd be nice to see some life pumped back into it. DC always had my favorite controller... Though, somewhat crippled for a few games for lack of second analog stick...
