Best Buy's Inventory info for the Wii

They've got an interesting rumor going on at Kotaku and it's got to do with the Wii and the Double-B. One enterprising reader decided to take a look at Best Buy's inventory information on the Wii and the PS3, and noticed something that could either be an error or the usual missing information we can expect from our fine establishments.

Now, the PS3 comes up with the usual information, with the street date and shipping date on November 17. The Wii, however, is different. If you'll look at the picture above, you'll notice that the Wii has a shipping date (In Stock Date) of October 29, but no street date. The Wii's launch is supposed to be around mid-November, which begs the question, "Could Best Buy launch the Wii early?"

You never know about these sorts of surprises, but it's a lot more plausible to think it's simply an error on their part. Personally,  I'm thinking the National Guard should be there to ensure no one sneaks off with the hardware before the launch date.

» best buy

my friend worked for best buy when windows XP came out (long time ago, huh?) and someone at the store sold 1 copy the day before it was allowed to be sold... Microsoft fined that store $1million for breaking the release agreement

how funny would it be if it was nintendos super secret plan, to say that the release date is after the ps3 but at the last minute release it earlyer. lool

» Demo Kiosks

Last I heard, Ocotber 29th was the date that the demo kiosks for the Wii is gonna be put out for the public. Supposedly October 20th is the date for the PS3 demo kiosks.

» No.

Stop the idiotic rumors. No vendor in their right mind would sell early and risk the huge 'fine' or losing their rights to sell the product forever.

I believe zeio about the kiosks, and I wouldn't doubt that Nintendo is physically shipping the boxes early, to make sure everything is in place. It's unusual to ship it -that- early, but it's possibly they just really want this to go right.

» Warehouse numbers

When I worked at circuit city, inventory numbers for product not yet released would show up in the distribution warehouses first. The date indicated October 29th could mean thats when the BB warehouse will recieve the Wii before it ships it out to it's actual stores.

Thats my guess, BB could do it differently.

» Wii

I think the rumor of the early release might be true. Go to the best buy web site and look at some of the release dates on the Wii games. for example supper smash bros. brawl realease date on the 11/03/06. why would a game be released way before the console launch

» games before system

it's always like that. the games come out around a week or so before the systems usually, i don't know why though.

» to put it simply

From experience working in retail, many popular releases, games or consoles normally get shipped way ahead of release. And as mentioned if sold before the release date the store and person who sold it will be fined. Sure they might get the consoles earlier but selling them is a different story. As for games, when a system launches, there are always a couple of launch titles that launch before the console is released. Think about it games are released(shippe d) on tuesdays, consoles normally come out on the weekend. So some games will be released the tuesday before the console comes out and then some games will be released the same day the console is released.
