Rumor: Wii hacked to run burnt DVDs?

Either this guy has two Wii's plugged into that TV, or he figured out a way to get his Wii to run burnt CDs. Maybe the Wii CAN play burnt DVD copies of legal Wii games? However, that would mean that Nintendo did a very sloppy job with security. Oh well, people will hack what can be hacked I guess.

Anyway, the annoying thing about this is that given that this is a video, we have very little to go by, and things are very hard to confirm. Some people have pointed out that perhaps he's not using a standard Wii, since the channels he's got on are "weird," some are still adamant that he's plainly using two Wii's to orchestrate this hoax.

Keep in touch people, we'll update you when we get more (hopefully more concrete) word about this. For now, enjoy the video!

» *sigh*

Does this mean that Wii's already the new DC? Well.. thats of course nobody downloads the updates which means i guess they cant play online/whatever? (Not too sure about how the online stuff works, didn't really pay much attention to that)

» fffffffffaaakkkkeeee

Its fake. Theres a pause when he takes the disk out and puts it in......

» Hmm...

I don't see anything wrong with his channels at all. You're just not used to seeing the Wii in a 4:3 TV. Plus, you can move your channels around anyway, so even if they are in the wrong order it can still be moved.

I dunno, maybe he used Alcohol 120% to do this afterall?

maybe he switches disk................ fast................... and edits the video

» Are you guys serious?

Wow....

Video is completely fake. Watch when he ejects the disk... See the icon on the screen go away? No, it take a couple seconds after..

Now turn on YOUR wii and put in a disk, wait, eject it ... guess what, disc won't eject until the icon is gone...

There is a 2nd Wii with the original game in it, it's just out of camera view.

Why is this even posted here? It's so obvious =/

So obvious there is a lag before the icon goes once a disk is taken out of the drive..

» Fake

I have a VCR and could fake the same video.

Am I a hacker?

by cybereality - 2006-11-26 01:15
» its fake

Why do people insist on posting fake "hax0r" videos on youtube? Its just really lame. If you can't hack then stop faking the funk.

Alright heres why this guy couldn't have done this

Look really closely at your wii and gamecube disks. At around the hole theres a barcode. That section is called the Burst Cutting Area. Burners that can write there are very expensive. The way hackers got gamecubes to run homebrew were through an exploit in PSO. However this was only a software mod meaning once you shut off your gamecube you had to run through the whole process again.

This guy boots a burned disk straight from boot. So unless he made a modchip in the week the wii was out his video is a fake.
