Here's something that Nintendo Wii owners may consider as groundbreaking: there's a certain video that's currently circulating the Internet, apparently showing a North American Wii running Japanese Virtual Console games. It may not mean much to you - playing Final Fantasy: My Life as a King in Japanese isn't all that it's cracked up to be - but imagine the possibilities.

The video details how one can use the WAD installer to run a Japanese VC game (in this case, it's Family Ping Pong), which looked pretty easy to perform, assuming that you have the right tools.

So what does this mean to the Wii homebrew gaming scene, if ever this video turns out to be the real thing? Well, not much, but it's only a matter of time before the big N makes a move to eradicate this possible gateway to Virtual Console gaming piracy, which may or may not affect the homebrew community.

We'll be pegging this as a rumor for now until we confirm this as a legit development. But enough about that. Check out the video below and see the Virtual Console hack for yourselves.

» Its true!

Its done with a program called Freethewads

it basically changes the region setting of the wad (virtual console/wiiware game) to whatever you want.

» Ahahaha XD

"possible gateway to Virtual Console gaming piracy"

VC piracy is going strong, and wad region changing is old news to the pirates. I've had a US version of sonic 2 on my PAL wii for a while now
