Rumor: Take-Two to appeal Manhunt 2 ban?

Manhunt 2 - Image 1

The last time we heard about the hoopla surrounding Manhunt 2's ban, we reported that Take-Two has decided to suspend the game's distribution a bit, in order to buy themselves time and think just what sort of action they could take so that when the game is finally released, it's without any more hiccups or snags. Now, it seems that the publishing firm has finally made a decision, and that's to appeal the ban the British Board of Film Classification slapped onto the title.

While it's certainly bold of Take-Two to go to the mattresses for its own product, the alternatives look no less damning - them being a) cutting out content to make it warrant an M rating, or b) release the game as is, even with the ban and the AO title.

And with the publishing firm's defense being that the game itself is an entertainment experience tailored for psychological horror fans, and quite in line with other mainstream entertainment choices available to the public (such as movies and books), it could be a solid case as far as appealing the ban is concerned.

Please do note that Take-Two Interactive has yet to confirm whether they're actually appealing the BBFC's decision or not, but we'll be here to update you as soon as we catch wind of it.

2nd YAY!!!! when it says option b is to release it with an AO rating is there really any way to release it since sony and nintendo dont allow AO. What happens if they do release it? Like they dont get a nintendo logo or like they get sued.

Whats bad about this isnt the fact thats its ban in EU, that dosnt matter, what does is that sony and microsoft said they will not have any adult only titles on their systems. so this will be a PC only if they dont do something about the AO rating.

» Please don't change the rating.

Do I want Manhunt 2 to be released? Yes!

Do I want Take-Two to lose money? No!

Do I want the rating changed? NO!

The fact remains that they already have rated the game, if the ESRB (or any other rating system) decides to change it, then they might as well say that their "ratings" don't really matter. As much as I don't agree with Thompson, what he said about the ESRB actually taking a stand (albeit one which seems to be politically motivated) actually rings true. Besides, as "artful" as the Wii version is, the fact still remains that you are virtually killing people while mimicking actions. Would I play it? Yes. Would I want my nieces and nephews to play it? Hell no!

How can people be so inhuman when you see a tragedy of this nature happen to another person? Where is our humanity? You guys are sick! Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and I guess you are not one of them! It's never too late to change your heart or it will be too late. Geez!

» I agree!

This game needs to go, period. Don't remake the game to meet M rated levels...just destroy it and shut down your pathetic company. I won't buy another game from this crap company ever again, trying to push such crap as "art," ... they are all sick and should be sent for medical help ....

Like you, I agree that games like these aren't necessarily bad, but it does fall unto the audience. Much like you, I'd play it because I have the intellect to understand that it's only a game, not a training ground. And much like you, I have no plans whatsoever to let my kids play something (or watch me playing it) while they are at an impressionable age.

Don't shower us with your religion. I know how horrible violence is, but it's just so great in a media source. Maybe your the kind who doesnt enjoy a couple horror flicks. This game is putting you inside a horror movie, give it a rest please.
