Rumor: Super Smash Bros. Brawl Wii Channel in the works?

Rumor time, and it's about the highly-anticipated Super Smash Bros. Brawl for the Nintendo Wii. For those of who were spoiled on the star-studded roster of the game, you may have noticed that there certainly is room for quite a few more people.

It seems that even the game's director, Masahiro Sakurai, thought the same thing, as he allegedly plans to release new content for the game via a dedicated channel on the Wii. This title would be named SSBB: New Challenger, and it would grant you additional content for the game in return for Wii Points.

This comes from a scan of an interview with none other than Sakurai himself - a two-page spread of nothing but Brawl, Brawl and more Brawl. It's all in Japanese, so the poster's translation - which yields the information above - is a bit suspect.

In fact, some of the replies in the thread the scan is posted in already deny the news as real. Which is bad, considering that downloadable content for Super Smash Bros. Brawl would definitely be awesome. Until we get official word from Nintendo, though, this remains strictly a rumor - or even worse, just a pipe dream.

While I understand if they "hold" characters from the game to be downloaded....that is pretty weak and a ripoff....BUT!!! If down the road, you can purchase characters that were not in the original scope of the project it's a good idea. A year from now we can purchase a character that never had a chance to be released in the original time frame.

Not to mention that it opens doors to downloadable content.

I'm not going to argue with you, because some of the things you say are true, but I notice you have a strong tendency to criticize or oppose anything and usually everything not related to Xbox 360 if I'm correct. If I may remind you, this is only a rumor. Rumors have to be taken with a grain of salt, so I don't see the point of specualting. Unless this is the only way by which you are able to pass your time, there's really no point in speculation. It's not like Nintendo is going to decide to read all blogs to find people's opinions. Also, it's not like your skepticism and criticism will convert a Nintendo zealot or fan. Besides, you are being very pessimistic about Nintendo games. True, some third-party games aren't worth spitting on, yet there are more than "1-2" first-party worth considering. Even more, the re-selling of games is obviously optional, not all people have the ability or desire to set up there N64/SNES/NES/ et cetera to play these old games, that is, if they work. What's more, not all people, as you may, believe buying re adapted games they may have had in the past is worth it. Then again, there are those who will buy the games. I am one of those people.

The Nintendo Wii is, as you know, currently the lowest-priced console out there. Microsoft, in a feeble attempt to compete, has managed to cripple some of its 360 packages so that it can do half as much as a premium, then it wants the person who bought the inexpensive (to them) console to buy hdd's that cost a lot more by themself for purely capitalistic purposes. The way I see it right now, all three console producers try to advance their fortunes on every front, even if it means just about scamming the consumer. Selling Blu-ray games for $60...that is understandable; it costs more to manufacture. Selling DVD games for $60...that's just wrong. Nintendo games use the same kind of disc but somehow can sell them for $50 each...

Everyone has their faults, especially international corporations that just want your money. It is a big waste of time speculating, criticizing, and endorsing these companies for things as unimportant as games. But since you are Mr. Common sense you know that already.

Virtual console, live arcade, and ps store are all crap, and what's worse is that releasing incomplete games has gone from the exception to being the rule.

How will DLC work with online play? Do I have to buy Mewtwo to fight against someone who is using him?

its already almost 2010 and no confirmation

Still no sign and its 2011 but ulso u could mod your game so you could play as mewtwo for free but you would have to lose a character to do that...
