RUMOR: New Wiimote model in production?

New wiimotes coming soon? - Image 1We reported about the new Wiimote straps yesterday. But could it be possible that with these new straps a new Wiimote could also enter the scene? According to a rumor that first appeared in the Japanese magazine, Game Lab, Nintendo is allegedly already hard at work in making a new Wiimote.

This won't make your trusty controller obsolete, so don't go throwing it on a television or something. Apparently, the Game Lab rumor said that this new version will be sporting a better grip and will come with a rechargeable battery - two changes that are entirely possible to do.

Nintendo has apparently denied the said rumor, but that doesn't stop tongues from wagging like crazy. So with that, we leave the deciding up to you. Do you think this is nothing but a fake or do you think that it has a tinge of truth in it?

Its a bit soon for a new wii mote but think of it as what the wave bird was to the original gamecube controller. No major revisions.

If this rumor were true, it would be one step closer to my chance of purchasing a Wii. All else I'd want is the VC to have a bigger library, come in the color black, and play DVDs.

They could do this by simply changing the battery cover. They could add grippy rubber to the outside of it, and attach a rechargeable battery pack to the inside.

I think they may make some kind of technical upgrade (rechargeable battery, anyone?) or better wireless signal or something, or maybe an asthetic change, but not a full brand new remote. Nintendo isn't like that. I wouldn't mind a wireless nunchuck and VC controller though...

Could be true, could be fake, we'll just have to wait and see I guess. It wouldn't be out of the question, that's for sure. Although it would cost a good chunk of dough, just making the replacement straps costed Nintendo a good $8 million extra.
