RUMOR: Lightsaber game for Wii "on the horizon"?

A recent piece on FIN24 that detailed the Nintendo Wii's current dominance of the video game console market included a little tidbit that could possibly give Star Wars fans experiences that end in "-gasm". That is, if it turns out to be true. Anyway, the piece included this snippet:

The head of the LucasArts, the game division for "Star Wars" series creator George Lucas, told AFP a Wii game that lets players wield virtual light sabers is on the horizon.

Emphasis in the quote above is ours. Fans have been clamoring for a motion-sensing Star Wars game for some time now, and while a 1:1 on-screen reproduction of a player's swings and thrusts of the Wiimote might be too much to ask for, we're certainly very interested in seeing how this supposed new game performs.

No names were mentioned apart from "head of the LucasArts", so for now, file this under the rumors section and enjoy the fan-made video below. Hey, if LucasArts can pump out a Wii game that has half the coolness factor of this vid, we'll be the first in line to get it.

Come on, this idea was probably the first one anyone thought of when they saw the Wii. It's going to happen, period.

It's only a mix of the "Star Wars : Force unleashed" trailer with stupid gesture.

it not too much to ask for the wiimote shud be able to do this. (i thought it has the ability to do this wen i got my wii) i thought that it was cos no games used the wiimote properly.

I can see it like that. Force powers would be selectable on the d-pad on the wiimote (using right and left to circle through them) the Z button on the nun-chuck would be to target enemies and the B button on the wiimote would be to use the force power. The + and - buttons on the wiimote would be to change weapons, and slashing with the wiimote (like seen on zelda) would attack with the lightsaber.

Pretty simple.

That's why we labelled it as a "fan-made video". :)

Those would be pretty easy too. All movement could be controlled via the nun-chuck. Movement use the analog stick (obviously), jumping you swing the nun-chuck up, running (while walking) move the nun-chuck forward, dodging you swing the nun-chuck in the direction you wish to dodge to (right or left).

There are so many possibilities. Yesterday was the day of the PS2 or Xbox controller.

Hello innovation.
