Rumor: Infinity Ward to resume development for Call of Duty franchise |
Ó
According to a former employee of Activision's to-be-shut-down Foster City studio (aka Activision Underground), Infinity Ward is currently negotiating with the company to reclaim exclusive development rights for the Call of Duty franchise.Infinity Ward was the original developer of CoD 1and CoD 2, as well as CoD 4 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC, DS).
Call of Duty 3, launched in 2006 for the PS2, PS3, Wii, Xbox 360, and Xbox, had been developed by Activision's Treyarch studio. The same studio is currently tasked with developing Call of Duty 5.
What makes this rumor all the more interesting is that Infinity Ward's re-negotiation with Activision may have ties with Underground's upcoming closure. According to the ex-employee, Underground had been working on two projects before it was shut down: the PS3 port of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars, and a CoD spin-off.
Far from an FOS, the spin-off game would have been a third person action-adventure affair that was expected to become a yearly franchise. Unfortunately, when Infinity started its re-negotiations, it also meant that Activision's studios could no longer develop any CoD-related games.
At the moment, the validity of this rumor is unclear, given that both Activision and Infinity Ward have yet to comment regarding the negotiations. We'll leave this in the rumor mill for now, at least until more substantial information can be found.

the only one who noticed... But in cod3 the water looks better than in cod4 graphics wise.
cod3 wasn't that bad, and I'm pretty sure even if Tri-whatever was to develope cod5 it'd be as good if not better than cod4 (because cod4 I'm pretty sure gave every FPS game developer ideas of what to add into their games).
Nah sorry man i will have to disagree cod 3 was a load of **** it was full of glitches and just didn't have that infinity feel to it like cod 1 and 2 which changed online pc fps thats why cod 3 was such a hit because the original people built it from the ground up all gamers knew that which is why on every platform its at the top of the charts.
I heard CoD 5 was going back to WW2. I hope not, WWII games are getting boring now. Too many of them floating around. Which is probably why CoD4 is such a hit - it's finally something different.
probably wont buy it if it goes to WWII.
They should see that people nowa days like modern better (even a little in the future is good too).
CoD1 and 2 changed the shooter genre, and even with all that to pull from CoD3 still sucked. CoD5 will not be as good as CoD4
