Rumor: double USB hard drive coming to the Wii? - Image 1

It's about time we rumor-mongered ourselves, didn't we? According to our tip-off, Nintendo's working an a "double USB hard drive" as a storage solution for the console.

The hard drive is supposed to mount on the back of the Wii, and designed to look like a natural part of the console. A firmware upgrade will be required to use it. Furthermore, everything you buy from the Wii Shop Channel can be transferred unto the hard drive, no problem. The HD will be available in 32 GB and 64 GB models.

A date of release wasn't indicated with the tip-off, but I'm hoping this will be soon. At least, in time to convince HVS to make DLC for The Conduit.

Huge thanks to our tipster for the info.

But without a valid "Source" indication, I don't know if I can trust this. a 32 Gig HD is a bit of an "odd" Storage size. But, i can see why they would have this with 2 USBs. With the Wii Speak and Motion Plus coming out, they need more USB ports.

Is there any way you can verify this source?

Working on further verification of the source.

You have to actually transfer the data? Lame. If the drive is inserted it should just use it and ignore the small crap it comes with. Do a mass transfer in the begining.

Further tip-off says the "odd size" has something to do with protection against piracy and emulators. That's all I got right now though.

if that is true against piracy, that's a great idea.

32 gigs is not actually an odd number. You are only able to increase the size by double. 1,2,4,8,16,32,64,128,256,512,1024,2048,4096,8 192,16384...

Two things.. Firstly, how the heck is 32 or 64GB an odd number? Two, how would this actually "TRY" to prevent piracy? So instead of 20 full dvd games, you have 16. Big f/ing deal. I can't wait till this is hacked for ISOs. Plenty of games to backup.

easy

first..you put anti piracy coding in the boot sector or another hidden sector that disallows ISO's

second..you put another bit of code that looks for the hard drives code in the new update needed to utilise the hard drive.

just like ps3

wait

that hasnt been hacked yet

why

intellegent security programming for once

i'm not saying it will never be broken

but its not impossible to make it work

so you circumvent the chip

the boot sectors reading for the chip

and vice versa

its not impossible to bypass

but if you think it is

well be my guest

the reason xbox was hacked because of the way the parts married

if ninty had right encryption load

youde never get it

we'll just have to wait and see, and hope for the best! (ISOs on the hard drive, etc)

Give it a few weeks and it'll be hacked to work in 3.2 firmware.
