Rumor: Best Buy employee hoarding, a thing of the past?

Official?Kotaku speculates that Best Buy employee hoarding may very well be a thing of the past. They base this speculation on this particular snippet of the new official policy. Yeah, Best Buy likes their plans and their strategies.

Anyway, just in case you're a bit too lazy to read through things that sound "official," here's what the policy is basically saying. Employees can only buy a console when they're not on duty. When they're buying a console they're treated like any other customer. Only one console unit per employee. If you're an employee, no reselling of the console you bought.

It looks like they can't keep Wii and PS3 consoles to themselves on pain of termination. If this is true, then good: we need those consoles!

By the way, if in case you're a bit antsy about things like this, here's the official policy that Kotaku quoted:

Employee Purchase Policy Due to inventory levels of PlayStation 3 (PS3) and Nintendo Wii hardware, there are strict requirements on employee purchases. An employee must be off-duty in order to purchase these products. Employees are customers when they're not at work, so must follow same standard procedure applicable to customers:

  • Stand in line with no preferential treatment

  • Receive line ticket based on placement in lines

  • Purchase of one unit per employee

Every employee is expected to uphold our values, adhere to our Company policies and keep a constant focus on our customers. Behaviors exhibiting direct violation of the Company policies and values will not be tolerated. The consequences for violating the Company values and policies will result in an immediate launch of an internal investigation resulting in a range of disciplinary actions - up to, and including, termination of employment.

The resale of any PS3 or Wii systems originally purchased at Best Buy by a current Best Buy employee is strictly prohibited. To view the Company's Employee Purchase Policy, go to eGO and select Policies & Culture, Policies, Your Responsibilities & Behavior and then Employee Discount Policy. Employees should talk to their managers to discuss or report questionable behavior.

The bad part about this rumored new policy? People who have "inside" friends over at Best Buy don't get an "advantage" when it comes to securing the oh so wanted consoles. Awwwww.

we can resell the systems.. as long as we dont use out discount.. lol (how they gonna know) we just have to pay for it.. with cash.. like a normal person.. no discount

besides.. the thing that sucks is.. we dont get a discount on video game systems anyways .. the games yes. the systems no. we pay normal price for them.
