An example of Roy Burrell, a state representative from Louisiana known as the man who sponsored the bill that bans violent video games from being sold to minors, voices out his thoughts once more through an article he wrote on Shreveport Times. Burrell continues the battle against violent video game content which he claims to be a "fight to protect our constituents and their children against the predatory tactics of the video game industry".

The article says:

I thank The Times for saying, "Burrell should be applauded for his passion to safeguard the impressionable and vulnerable." As The Times accurately quoted, "I don't want the public to spend one more penny than they have to. But if I'm going to spend taxpayer money, I'm going to do it fighting for these children. They don't have a chance."

The Times agrees, "The pandering of murder, prostitution and various other criminal activities portrayed in video games is indeed gratuitous and morally unacceptable."

Burrell is definitely happy about the attention and recognition he's receiving. He mentioned that  "[Legislators] should be commended and not humiliated on standing up finally for children and families against the powerful entertainment industry". The rest of the article shows Burrell's dismay on the failure to fully enforce the video game law. "Do not sell harmful mature video games to minors! But the facts are they still do, according to Federal Trade Commission surveys. This must stop!", he says. He adds:

Psychopathic killers are not born, they are made! Maybe our judge and news editor should tune into the national cable stations and consider using their professional tools to assist in areas that will help stop senseless activities and deaths due to extremely violent information being fed to our children.

From his last paragraph,
"Unlike The Times editor and our "dumbfounded" federal judge, it is difficult for me to ignore the facts that explicitly sexual and ultra-violent video games are severely and adversely affecting our children's behavior."

Guess what. There always going to point the finger at someone or something. Be it video games one day or not. You think the children are going to think its right to grow up beating people with a baseball bat like in grandtheft auto..

How about when there parents are watching the daily news and its "murder this" or "watch this violent assualt" or more importantly all this "war in iraq" and the witchunts and the other sterotypical jabber that Americans do.

Stop alienating video games and making it sound like a Homeland Security Threat.

Look at this game and Grand Theft Auto games. They are heartless and perverts! They shouldn't made the games like those because they are telling us that it's fun to beat people up and killing people like a murderer they are so it's wrong. Stupid games like this.

# lol, video games are going to kill everyoneGuest 2007-05-11 05:48
No, it isn't telling us that, i doubt you have even played a grand theft auto game. millions of people love it, you my friend are of the minority that don't like it, arnt allowed to play it, or don't want to play it cause of the media. It's just a game with pixels moving, and arguable the best game series ever.

Also, who cares if they won't sell them to minors, they can just get their parents or older siblings or friends to get them for them. i don't know a single one of my friends who isnt allowed to play gta, and guess what, no muderes or acts of violence have been comitted OMFG!!!!!

this guy really is a moron. so i guess all the mortal combat and gta that ive played over the years ive become a sex crazed violent serial killer????? hmm hasnt happend yet so i guess im due any day now to pull someone outta their car and beat them to death infront of a cop with a baseball bat then hop in the car and run the cop over going on a vehicular man slaughtering rampage. riggghhhtttt go the hell back to the swamps and find something better to ***** about burrell. and theres one thing youre forgetting, your upbringing by your parents have a hell of a lot more effect on what you become than a video game. so all the kids that shot up schools and stuff go back and look it up their own *****ing parents never paid any attention to them
